SUNY Downstate Accelerated BSN june 2011 class

So I got a letter from Downstate. I was placed on the waiting/alternate list, which of course means that if space becomes available they'll let me know. I'm a little bummed but I'm keeping hope alive that someone declines admission or changes their mind last minute. Does anyone know how these lists work? Do they call people off the list randomly, in abc order, by rank?

Hi Jadedjoy85,

I was told by admission that they revisit everyone on the waiting list and then they make a decision. So I guess they pick the best applicant first. Would you mind sharing your stats? I applied by January 14th but I have not heard from them yet.

i submitted my application back in november, so i'm just surprised i haven't heard from downstate either way! maybe they are reviewing applicants in alphabetical order?

has anyone received a rejection letter?

asr212, maybe they are reviewing in alphabetical order...I'm at the end of the alphabet. I haven't heard anything yet and no changes to my checklist either.

they review in batches based on when you submitted your app

Hi All,

I just joined b/c I found this website very useful as I've been applying to several programs.

I submitted my application on the last day and I received my acceptance letter in the mail last Thursday.

Good luck to everyone. I know that the anticipation is a great source of anxiety for everyone. Hang in there!

Do you know when your application was sent to the committee for review? I also applied the last day and have not heard back from them yet.

According to the website it was forwarded a week after I submitted. My application was complete (All prerereqs finished and no outstanding questions from them).

It seems that they are sending out admission letters on a sort of rolling/ranking basis perhaps? It looks like folks were sent acceptance letters in the beginning of February.

I would suggest that you email them. Throughout this process they have responded to me quickly (within 48 hours).

I heard back and found out that I am an alternate. I have accepted an admissions offer to another ABSN program though, so maybe that will give some hope to those of you who are alternates on this thread :) Best of luck to everyone!

I know there have been some questions asked about the committee's decision timeline, so if it helps, here is how things progressed for me:

1/11 - Application received

1/24 - Application sent to committee

2/28 - Online admissions checklist changed to include "Accepted/Alternate List Applicant Checklist" items - there was no indication as to whether I was accepted or an alternate though

3/5 - Received alternate letter in mail - the letter was dated 2/25 and postmarked 3/1

Hey everyone. I Just received my alternate list letter.... A straight No would almost be better. Now the waiting game. Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back! Does anyone know how long the alternate list is?
