SUNY Downstate Accelerated BSN june 2011 class

Published

hi all

has anyone received a response yet from Downstate for the 2011 ABSN Program? Since it starts in June I would have guessed decisions were already made, but havent heard anything yet.

I've got to tell you, I could not be more frustrated with Downstate right now. Every one of my interactions with them have been terrible. I am planning to become a midwife, and was interested in Downstate because I could do both my nursing and CNM program there.

I went down for an info session for their midwifery program, and they said someone could look at my transcripts and my pre-req classes. Someone took my info and told me they would get back to me and they never did.

I decided to apply anyway, and was confused about the TEAS test, as none of the other schools I was looking at required it. I called the admissions office, and quite frankly, was yelled at for not knowing how to go about registering for the test.

I submit my application and all of my application materials, and one of my transcripts shows up as not having arrived. I had sent it three weeks prior. Getting a little nervous, I call the office and ask about it. The woman on the phone tells me three weeks is not a long time, and it would get there when it got there. Phone slam. She didn't even look or ask for my name.

Recently I sent my fall 2010 grades and schedule for next semester (sent Dec. 18th) and I called about a week ago to make sure they had gotten there, as they are still missing on their online system. I never got an answer, left a message, and never hear back. I called again today to check to see if they had them, and was, literally, yelled at for not being able to fax the info to them. I do not have access to a fax machine. I do not know anyone with a fax machine. It is not 1986. Yet I am yelled at. Again.

I am SO done with Downstate. They are unbelievable. And I hear it doesn't get better.

mef06011,

Sorry to hear about your experience with SUNY Downstate member of staff, but honestly speaking what do u expect, the program is located on Clarkson avenue in BROOKLYN. So u shouldn't be surprised, nor disappointed. As for me, once I looked at there website, i knew there is nothing to write home about, and I cdnt be bothered calling blc I know they wont be of any help over the phone. Because its BROOKLYN!!!! So I didn't even waste my time applying.

In any event, don't let them discourage you, keep calling, but this time call with an attitude also, its the only way to deal with them. It takes two to tangle, otherwise they will frustrate your ambition and you wont get anything done. The people answering the calls are not the same as the people you will meet in the academic section, so just don't pay attention to them for now. I wish you good luck!!!!

I applied and walked over the rest of my application material a few weeks. Fortunately I saw everything posted within a couple of days. I am only missing one pre-req which I am registered to take in the spring. I dont that think that they have made all their decisions yet, based on what I saw on prior blogs about Downstate decisions they aren't usually sent out until another couple of weeks to a month. I am patiently waiting to hear my decision no sense in stressing it at this point.

What did y'all think about the TEAS V? The average score was in the 60s and Downstate wanted at least 10 points above that. I guess they want to stay competitive.

lets keep this on topic, but i think to stand a chance in the downstate absn program admission eval, math and reading scores at least in the mid-80s are neccessary. also, from other posts, seems that teas v is way harder than teas iv

hi everyone

i have not heard anything from downstate since i sent in my application back in october.. but i have been periodically checking my 'application checklist' online, and recently logged on to make sure they had received my micro grade from this past fall semester and my final transcript.. i noticed the checklist had changed to include a new student/alternate checklist including things like deposit, immunizations, etc.

has anyone else had this happen ??

hi all. i sent in my application for the accelerated program at suny downstate, for june 11', on jan 14th. i hope it got there in time.... best of luck to all. will post with updates as they come.

I sent my application at the end of December and am took my last prereq in a winter intersession. As soon as that transcript is sent, my application will be complete. I was also not impressed with the staff at SUNY. They seem like they don't care because they don't have to. They know that a ton of people will apply so they don't bother with being kind and helpful. It's a shame. Good luck to all

Based on other posts from previous classes this is a very good sign :)

sounds like you're in, now the checklist includes items required for admission vs application only.

if you dont mind sharing, what were your cume, prereq, and science GPA's -- and your reading/math TEAS % scores (actual adjusted score, not ranking vs other test-takers). Since admission to Downstate appears to be more quantitative-based than some of the other programs, that'll give a good idea of whats competitive-
