  1. I had absolutely no physics of any kind on the exam nor were there any formulas that I had to memorize. You can pretty much ignore the physics that is found in the McGraw book. I used the McGraw to reinforce the topics covered in the ATI Manual. For instance the math in McGraw is harder than on the actual test but once I saw that I mastered their math exams I knew I was okay for the TEAS. Sorry for the late reply hope this helps
  2. well i did keep it on topic...i was sharing my experience on all aspects of the application process...still patiently waiting
  3. Based on other posts from previous classes this is a very good sign :)
  4. Well it seems like you have done similar credit load and course work in the past and have managed to keep your sanity then but know that this semester it is going to be tough. I have friend who this past semester was taking Nutrition, Chem (5 credits), and some writing course at NYU and she was definitely stressing and she has no childrern a supportive family and an older sister who graduated NYU nursing before her. She was able to come out Bs but had to get tutoring, meetings the the TAs (because there were 300 students in her class) and endless hours studying. Only you really know your limits. But since you posted on the topic then I sense your concern about the load. Think long and hard about it because NYU add/drop (unlike other schools) deadline ends before the semester ends. If you can perhaps take one of the other courses in the summer. Good luck either way on your decision.
  5. I applied and walked over the rest of my application material a few weeks. Fortunately I saw everything posted within a couple of days. I am only missing one pre-req which I am registered to take in the spring. I dont that think that they have made all their decisions yet, based on what I saw on prior blogs about Downstate decisions they aren't usually sent out until another couple of weeks to a month. I am patiently waiting to hear my decision no sense in stressing it at this point. What did y'all think about the TEAS V? The average score was in the 60s and Downstate wanted at least 10 points above that. I guess they want to stay competitive.
  6. My exam had no geology on it, I believe that happened on older exams (TEAS 3/4). Nor did it have any questions on physics either. But everyone's exam is different, mine had only one weird question on the sun and the ocean and that was it. I probably did get that one wrong but I could live with that. It mainly A&P and then some chemistry.
  7. Hey NAM123 your questions was not clear. But I took the TEAS V and did well on it using both the ATI and McGraw books, I did not purchase the online exams in hindsight I probably could purchasing they may have help raised my score a few more points. The most important tip that I found was first stop stressing about and surfing the 'net for TEAS tips, and actually take up the books and start to review them cover to cover. I cannot stress enough that you should time yourself. 90% of the people I knew who took it ran out of time and 75% had to retake it because they did not get the scores that the schools want. Use the practice questions under real test taking conditions and with that and prior knowledge you will be fine.
  8. Hey gina7282 no problem I wanted as much information as I could get for when I took the TEAS V this past fall. Yes I found the TEAS manual, the McGraw, and prior A&P knowledge to be extremely helpful in my preparation for the TEAS science and math sections. Yes they did give me an off the wall question about biology and that I did not know but I must at 95% of the questions could be answered by reviewing each book. What I like to stress is using the real timed conditions when practicing which prepares you for the time constraints you will encounter. I have heard stories from classmates that they ran out of time and this obviously negatively affected their score. I believe because of this (and obviously because I studied) I was able to have time in each section to cover all the problems and even time to spare in one section. I was able to score at least 10 points in each area over what the school that I am applying for asked for. Hope this helps. Let me know if you require any further information and good luck!
  9. Hey mygirlskk, I hope that you had a great semester. I recently took the TEAS V and after reading other posts I was more than a little apprehensive before I took it. Your best tool in doing well on the TEAS is preparation! I ordered the ATI TEAS manual and the McGraw Hill Nursing Entrance Exam book. In hindsight I should have ordered the online tests/ book bundle that they offer from the ATI website. I read over the material then tested and timed myself according to time limits that would be on the actual exam. Afterward I would focus on what I got wrong and then study that section. On the actual exam there are no breaks between sections, after you finish one section then it goes right into the next one. Also they give you the option to "flag" question so that If you have time at the end you can go back to question that you flagged. I hope that gives you some understanding. If you have ANy other questionS lemme know. And oh yeah no geology THANK GOD.
  10. This is one of the things you gotta love/hate about nursing. This job is 24/7 365 days a year. Which should translate in more jobs right? Well not really, at least not presently. The weather conditions and the fact that you are mandated and expected to show up to work regardless are things people should consider about when they get into nursing.
  11. I think it also depends on if you are contemplating grad school
  12. You can order on ATIs website (where you can also purchase 2 practice online exams) or Barnes and Nobles website
  13. I used the McGraw book and found that it was very useful in preparing for the TEAS V. For the math section I believe that the ATI book is spot on with the level of difficulty for the questions I saw on my TEAS exam, McGraw was a little bit more difficult, but if you can do the McGraw then you are definitely prepared for the TEAS. For the sciences both books really helped me. Remember it is not only the content but also remember to time yourself when you take the practice exams.
  14. You should check your school website. The requirements can vary from school to school for instance from what I see some school require Stats while other do not.
