SUNY Downstate Accelerated BSN june 2011 class

Published

hi all

has anyone received a response yet from Downstate for the 2011 ABSN Program? Since it starts in June I would have guessed decisions were already made, but havent heard anything yet.

sounds like you're in, now the checklist includes items required for admission vs application only.

if you dont mind sharing, what were your cume, prereq, and science GPA's -- and your reading/math TEAS % scores (actual adjusted score, not ranking vs other test-takers). Since admission to Downstate appears to be more quantitative-based than some of the other programs, that'll give a good idea of whats competitive-

i hope you're right! but you never know for sure.. hopefully they send out letters sometime soon

i had to look up my TEAS score report b/c i had noo idea what my scores were, it seems like i took that test so long ago (sept '10)

they are: reading 95.2% math 93.3% science 83.3% and english/language 96.7% those are the adjusted indiv scores

i have my bachelors in marketing with a 3.8 gpa and 4.0 in pre-req science courses (ap1,ap2,micro and chem)

hope that helps.. good luck to everyone and hope to hear some good news soon :)

I dont think there's any doubt now, based on your academics lol. provisional congratulations!

has anyone else had their checklist updated? recieved a letter (denial or acceptance)?

bump for feedback

mef06011,

Sorry to hear about your experience with SUNY Downstate member of staff, but honestly speaking what do u expect, the program is located on Clarkson avenue in BROOKLYN. So u shouldn't be surprised, nor disappointed. As for me, once I looked at there website, i knew there is nothing to write home about, and I cdnt be bothered calling blc I know they wont be of any help over the phone. Because its BROOKLYN!!!! So I didn't even waste my time applying.

In any event, don't let them discourage you, keep calling, but this time call with an attitude also, its the only way to deal with them. It takes two to tangle, otherwise they will frustrate your ambition and you wont get anything done. The people answering the calls are not the same as the people you will meet in the academic section, so just don't pay attention to them for now. I wish you good luck!!!!

hhhmmm....what's your beef with Brooklyn?? I just thought that was unnecessary. :uhoh3:

I have a friend who graduated from Downstate. It's a great school. From my experience, calling the department in ANY school is very frustrating. I had the same problem with NYU and Hunter and they're not in Brooklyn, they either didn't answer the phone, put me on hold forever or couldn't answer any of my questions. You should care about the faculty and not the receptionists. Next time go in person. Just saying...

Yeah! Princess, I have beef with Brooklyn, but if you took time to pay attention to the last sentence, you would get the gist i wasn't belittling the faculty or the program. I visit Downstate frequently, because I have friends in the residency program, and friends who are attending physicians. So I clearly know what am talking about when it comes to Downstate, you must understand the Brooklyn language to get pass.

Well, I'm in NY. I thought this was a NY board? Anyway, I live in Brooklyn and as you all know the situation in NYC is difficult right now, not only for nurses but teachers, firefighters, etc are losing their jobs too. I am still in school, btw. I am graduating soon, so I was just doing a general job search to see what is out there at the moment since I know I have to keep an open mind to the fact that i might not get my dream hospital job right away. I came across a few open houses which specifically target LPNs. The RN positions were slim to none, especially for new grads.

That's why I was wondering. I'm a single mom and I have no experience in the health field, so worst case scenario I'm willing to start as a LPN and then eventually be "upgraded" to RN. I'm not planning on lying about it, just explaining in my cover letter that I am willing to take the pay cut.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will end up just leaving NYC.

Princess, hummmmm!!!! now I understand your concern about Brooklyn and the other stuff.

Wow... you must really hate BK. I can't believe you took your time to dig up my old post. lol Hilarious.:yeah:

You must have gotten your heart really broken around here, so sorry about that.

Back to nursing...So we both agree Downstate is a great school. If you refuse to apply just because it's "in Brooklyn" and if you would rather pay $40,000/semester to stay in Manhattan good for you. Thanks for leaving open seats to those of us who appreciate a great and affordable education .Good luck repaying those loans! :redbeathe

yeah! I had to dig it out, to know your statistics so I know how to respond to your comments. And I guess its the reason the site was created that way. Anyway FYI, I have a full tuition scholarship offer already, so I don't have to worry about paying back any loan. As a matter of fact I have always gone to school with full scholarship, so I have never been a victim of loan repayment.

Good luck in nursing school tho. You will meet people from all walks of life including people from *gaspgaspgasp* Brooklyn. Nursing is all about networking so watch whose toes you're stepping on. The next recruiter you meet might be from Brooklyn. :D

Good luck to everybody applying!! Downstate is a great school!

could you guys please keep this on topic? argue about who's got a bigger.... IQ by email or PM.

any other Downstate acceptance/rejection notices as yet??
