SUNY Downstate ABSN 2022-2023

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for those of us who are applying to SUNY Downstate for the accelerated nursing program (ABSN) that begins next year, fall 2022. The cycle just opened today, so a thread is in order.

Good luck everybody! P.S. I'm going to post my stats and TEAS test scores below to get this started and hopefully we can compare notes as things get closer to being in review/interviews begin. ?

Does anyone have/know what it means when there is "Bachelors Degree in any discipline" "ATI TEAS" and like a list of prerequisites in the admissions check list? I provided all that info already within the application, including my TEAS score w/ the transcript so I'm kinda confused. They don't have any due dates or anything either, they're just there.

I just got the same thing, I think they're probably just like....reorganizing things as they're preparing to move to close the applications since deadline is 1/31? Just my guess.

oh okay, I hope thats the case then. If you don't mind me asking, what does the status of your application say? Mine says incomplete after initial review since I had a recommendation pending but its been completed now and marked as received. Not sure if they're ever gonna update my status to "complete" or something.

Honestly they seem really...slow?  Especially over the last month.  My guess is they've had staffing shortages related to the covid surge plus an increase in applicants.  my application has said forwarded to department for review for about 6 weeks, but also I had one thing (a 17 year old AP score) that I submitted several weeks ago, emailed them about twice, is definitely in the document upload section, and still says not received...so I think they're just slowing working through things!  Its hard because its not a transparent process, but from what I read in other years admissions is a really extended process and sometimes we don't find out about decisions even until late Summer ?

Yeah mine looks the exact same! I hope we don't have to wait that long for a decision ugh ?  but I agree, they definitely have staffing shortages or something right now.

Hey, how did you all do on the TEAS? I’m taking it this week.

I’m not sure but I would call admissions, they’ve always picked up when I’ve tried

I called today, admissions has no idea. They only said that the program has to review applications and invite for interviews.

When do they tell you your accepted? After the deadline?

hi! The program takes a little while to process applications especially now. Acceptances started going out around March. I got my decision a few days after the interview.

hey! does anyone know how many students are accepted?

hi, the program currently has 95 students. they probably accept a few more on a waitlist to make sure that number is filled as people make decisions on where they want to attend.

Do you all know if the "psychology elective" can be just be an intro psych class? Or does it have to be like an upper level elective?

hi, the requirement is usually an intro to psych class. I had a higher level psych elective which they did not accept. If you attend an info session, they will give you the email for admissions and you can email them your transcripts to see what you need in terms of pre-reqs.

They extended the deadline till end of February

For the application??
