SUNY Downstate ABSN 2022-2023

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for those of us who are applying to SUNY Downstate for the accelerated nursing program (ABSN) that begins next year, fall 2022. The cycle just opened today, so a thread is in order.

Good luck everybody! P.S. I'm going to post my stats and TEAS test scores below to get this started and hopefully we can compare notes as things get closer to being in review/interviews begin. ?

ohhh okay thanks! what did you put for the question asking "If accepted to SUNY Downstate, will you have your bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College completed before matriculation into the Accelerated Nursing program?" if you didn't go to brooklyn college?? and did your recommenders have any trouble submitting your letter on the application?

I'm not sure but I put no cause I'm not attending Brooklyn college, and yes they weren't able to submit so they sent it to >[email protected]< and it was accepted.

great, thanks so much!

Honestly I'm super stressed out about this, more than Columbia where I also applied. I actually think my chances are lower for Downstate :( . Does anyone know any alumni of the accelerated program, as well as the stats of the people they typically accept?

Personally: My pre req GPA is 3.7, and overall GPA 3.6, but my science GPA is brought down by a C in chem to 3.46 due to circumstances which I talk about in my personal statement. Other grades are AP1 B AP2 A Micro A-. I just get a feeling that they're very numbers-oriented, especially since compared to the other schools I've applied to there's not much room to show other parts of myself in the essays. My recommendation letters are pretty strong though so I'm counting on that, but I really hope my GPA doesn't pull me out of the game. TEAS I'm taking tomorrow!

If anyone has any info on what their admissions board is like, it'd be greatly appreciated!

how do you know if it was accepted? my recommenders had the same issue and they emailed it but I didn't get a notification or anything on my application? is that fine?

My professor ran into trouble too. She forwarded me the confirmation email she got from them after sending it in, so I do believe they're accepting recs via email. You can ask your rec for the confirmation email too if you wanna be sure

Hey Guys

For ABSN Program, once the recommendation request is sent, do the recommenders have to inform us that they submitted or do we get a notification?

Do you all know if the "psychology elective" can be just be an intro psych class? Or does it have to be like an upper level elective?

Hey, I’m currently in the accelerated nursing program. My stats were a 3.4 cumulative GPA, but my pre-requisite GPA was a 3.82. I didn’t do too well on the TEAS either, I received a total score of a 79. My reading section was a 85, math a 87 and science a 71. But I do have 4 years experience as a patient care technician at a hospital, and I've done research with my previous college. I was a biology major as well. I hope this helps, if anyone has any questions, please let me know. And I wish you the best of luck on your application process.

You can see on the application portal when your recommender has submitted their letter. They don't have to inform you!

I don't think Downstate has a specific number they look towards in terms of GPA. Your GPA sounds pretty good. I had the same pre req GPA as you when I applied. However, my science GPA was around a 3.2 or 3.3. I don't think that affected my chances. I explained why my grades were the way they were in my personal statement and my interviewer had actually brought up some points from my statement, letting me know that they actually read it. As long as you put your best foot forward, I think you should be fine. Good luck

Hello,

This is the first time I am applying to Down State Accelerated Nursing Program. I am currently registering for the ATI TEAS exam but I am not sure if I should register with TEAS for Allied health or Nursing students.

Moreover, can I still get into this program if I apply by 1/30/22? I am just afraid that I might not get in because of rolling admission.

Thank you so much!!

Does anyone have an idea of when admission decisions will be released? Their website says nothing about it.

I’m not sure but I would call admissions, they’ve always picked up when I’ve tried
