Summer before Nursing!

Published

Hi! I just got accepted to a BSN program and was wondering what I should do prior to entering nursing school.

I was planning on reviewing some med. term and such.

What do you all suggest? :) :nurse:

Disney World : D

Specializes in Medical Telemetry, SICU.

I'm waiting to see if I'll get in for next semester. I'm on the last of pre-reqs including a Patho class.

I plan on having as much fun as possible! b/c looking at the proposed schedule I'll have no time for anyone.

Oh and I plan on studying my Pathophysiology book along with an A&P referesher book all summer.

Relax and enjoy! I know it's hard though, I was so excited to start I didn't enjoy my time before starting at all! I wish I had though because it's so stressful I don't have a lot of time to do as much as I used to. Do a lot of fun things and get any health papers and other things your school requires done as soon as possible because I put it off to the last minute and it made it more stressful for me.

I am starting a program this fall too! I am taking a 2 week cross country vacation with several family members. Get outside and enjoy yourself. Spend time with family and friends. Clean house from top to bottom. BE LAZY.

These are the things I plan on doing because once the program starts I'm not sure I will be able to do these things again anytime soon..Good Luck! : )

Thanks OP for starting this thread. Love hearing ideas about preparing for first semester of nursing school.

I will take Health Assessment class to prepare for Fall (and lighten Fall load), clean house inside out, pay ahead on bills, set up time management plan, get finances/loans in order, arrange part-time employment with current employer, etc. I also hope to have at least a weekend of JUST ME WITH NO RESPONSIBILITIES OR CONTACTS WHATSOEVER (this means no kids, pets, ex-husband, extended family, friends). I will go to a hotel if necessary.

Good luck to everyone!

Now that sounds like a plan!! :D We have our nursing skills (fundamentals) class during the summer--6 weeks. So I am hoping to take that the first part of the summer and then take A&P II the second half so that I don't have that to take while doing my nursing classes. I hope I am not completely wiped out when Fall comes, but I want to be able to focus solely on my nursing classes this Fall. :lol2:

That's great! I am starting the AD program this fall and I was just wondering the same thing. I do have plans to review A&P and also refresh with my pathophysiology. Keep us posted on how things are going!:yeah:

Don't waste your time reviewing A&P or reading ahead. Your reading schedule might change and most of the readings for the first semester involve some level of A&P review.

Relax, lay by the pool (with sunblock, of course), drink frozen fruity concoctions, and see all your friends/family as much as you can. Trust me, if you don't, you will wish you had. I have friends I haven't seen since my ABSN program began in August!

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

Relax as much as possible, and get started on an exercise program!!

Specializes in Emergency/Cath Lab.

Lake Powell for a week.

Bring a 100' painters tarp, dish soap and some buckets of water. Set up ridiculous slip n slide down the hill side. Enjoy for the next week while drinking some drinks with your friends and playing on the water.

Thats what I did at least :D
