I applied for and was accepted into the Spring LPN program... For those who are already in the program, please share your study habits. What do you do to retain information? How long do you study? Flashcards...I want to know all please and thanks. I do know what may work for you may not work for me. I just need ideas. Thanks in advance.

Hi! I'm anxious to know as well. I start my program Sept 3 (Fall 2014) and we won't find out any info until 4-5 weeks prior. UGH! I need to get my schedule together for work, day care, etc... Yup....nervous wreck. But prayer has kept me grounded. :nurse:

I too will be following this thread. I am starting in August, and have orientation on Thursday.I have a million questions! I am excited and scared!!

Everyone's study habit is different. Personally I can't do flash cards.

I read and type out my notes, after I finish I go through my notes again and summarize and thin it out then study the important pieces.

ME TOO, VERY NERVOUS

I'm glad I'm not the only one , I start July

I have went on Amazon and brought A&P flash cards and medical term cards , just to study on my down time until I start.

I start LPN in the Fall and I am not nervous yet but I know about a week before hand I am going to be a wreck! I am trying find ways to calm my nerves. The best study habit I have is to review all the time.

How I studied depended on the class. I used flash cards for pharm. I used quizlet for a lot of my classes just by searching for my book and chapter title. I also type up my own study guides in a word document. I type faster than I write so if it was a short class, meaning If we only have 2 exams and 1 final, then I would make a word document study guide. Flash cards are good but they can be time consuming. It's best to read ahead, plan ahead and study ahead. It will save you so much frustration in the long run. We didn't start clinicals until our second term and so I had to learn to read and study when I came home to retain the info I had learned earlier in the week. It took a while because I was so exhausted but I finally got the hang of it. Time management is key.

Study, Study, and Study some more!!! I downloaded apps like quizlet, Fundamentals made easy, Ect. Try to answer a lot of questions to help you see how the questions will be set up. Read all rationales whether you get the question right or wrong! Mnemoics helped me greatly for pharmacolgy. If I can see it on paper, I usually can remember it.

Thanks all for the responses! I appreciate all of your help!

I just finished LPN school, and it took me awhile to figure out the best way to study. When the teachers went over power points instead of printing them off and highlighting as they go along, i wrote out the power point on paper. During the test i would be like oh i remember writing that out, thats the right answer. Also i downloaded the app Supernote, its awesome. it helped me record all my lectures and had a place to type up notes and post pictures. i realized while listening to my recorded lectures that my teachers repeated certain things over and over and they were always on the test. Having the lectures recorded also helped me because when i went back over my notes i could highlight repeated topics and add stuff in the teacher covered that wasnt on the slides. i also could listen to the lectures on the way to school in the mornings to review for the test that day. i tried flashcards and they were a waste of time writing them all out, the only time they worked for me was in pharmacology. i hoped this helped.
