Students Applying for SHSU Fall 2015 Nursing Program

Published

Hello!

Anyone who is applying to Sam Houston's fall 2015 nursing program is welcomed on this thread. Me and one other person had a conversation going on Sam Houston's Fall 2014 thread, but we decided to make our own. Please comment if you are applying! We were talking about TEAS scores, GPA, and other things on the other page and want to continue to talk about anything related to SHSU's nursing program on this page. Please make an account and comment/ask questions/share what you know about the program so we can get a good conversation going. Advisors are helpful, but so is this website, and, of course, other nursing students! :) Thanks.

What is your gpa and what location are you applying to?

My gpa is a 3.0 and im applying for huntsville! The woodlands would be more convenient for me but it seems like it'll be harder to get into!

Welcome Jen! The TEAS was much harder than I had anticipated. I figure if they are accepting scores in the 60s that they might understand that. Plus, the test results are adjusted for the difficulty of the test you recieve, which helps a lot.

I had the conversion of ounces to millimeters on my test, something that wasn't covered in any of the reviews I had completed. Also, I had to convert purines and pyrimidines into amino acids from a strand of DNA. Just something I wish I would have studied given the chance!

I feel like they are the same when it comes to getting in. Why do you think the woodlands would be harder? I know they take less, but it's newer too.

I think with my gpa being so low that I definitely wouldn't be competitive enough to get in at the Woodlands, but I'm going to see an advisor tomorrow at Huntsville. I was wondering if you could do maybe two applications one for each location. It would make sense if maybe after you submit one for one location that you may be able to submit another one to the other? I am going to purchase the study package for the TEAS online. https://www.atitesting.com/ati_store/product.aspx?zpid=1194 I've heard that it really helps. Has anyone else taken the TEAS yet?

The advisor I met with said applicants would only be allowed to apply to one or the other, which has turned it into a bit of a gambling situation for me.

I have taken the teas. I'm gonna try and take it again to get a higher score. I purchased the guide, but you really have to studying it for it to be effective I feel like...let us know what the advisor says!

I am beginning to think I may have a better chance at the Huntsville location as well. I've talked to a lot of people that plan on applying to The Woodlands with very competitive GPAs and test scores. Also, I wonder if The Woodlands campus is going to have hiccups to work through since the program is so new there.

do you guys, by any chance, know if they accept online science courses with their nursing applications? i currently take micro online, my other sciences have been in class.

The website says that virtual, distant learning or online science course offerings are not acceptable. I just checked to make sure as well.

I took a hybrid AP 2 class as well as an online math class and both show up in the application as counting towards my calculated gpa

that would be the only thing stopping me. I was actually excited to apply for them. thanks anyway you guys!
