I think I'm done answering student nurse help me threads here.
I've gotten rude answers, or they never even bother coming back to the thread to acknowledge the answers they received.
Some will ask life choice questions like "Where should I move?" or "Where should I apply?". Do they think someone is going to offer them a job here, is that why they start these threads? You have the whole internet to research towns, cities, regions, but instead you post a thread asking a bunch of strangers where you should move?
Some help me threads seem to be 'Help me do my homework' threads.
Thank you for reading.
No, if you go through the thread, she was warned (as many people are on this site when they do that when signing up, regardless of the thread). She has just decided to get nasty with people, exactly the reason WHY we don't post our real names and pics. You never know what post might come back to bite you in the ass someday.
Not a threat.
This is childish. a wrong turn was made somewhere. This Seems to resemble something like a threat.
It's not a threat at all. What everyone is referring to is not using your real name or photo since your facilities managers, co-workers, and others could easily identify you. They may not like what you say. Currently a thread is going on about a person being fired over something that was posted on Facebook.

First mention of "crusty old bats" came from That Guy on "The Mockery of Nursing" thread.Feb 14, '12 by That Guy

I just registered for this site, and this is one of the first threads that I have read. It is quite entertaining, despite being steeped in broad generalizations about both "new" (per this thread, interpreted as "stupid") and "experienced" (per this thread, interpreted as "mean and old") nurses. The sense of community is underwhelming, but the quality of humor is above par. I am waiting for both sides to square off for a battle royale. "Nursarmageddon 2012" would certainly pull in the Pay-Per-View consumers. Which side do I join? I am able to spell and read, I do not have a DWI, I am a hopeful new nursing student pursuing a second career, with a reasonable degree of life experience, but will be an "old new" nurse upon graduation. Perhaps I should just referee?Thats because after awhile, you will notice that there is a certain algorithm for ridiculous posts. It starts off with the OP saying some story about how they went through school with a 4.0 with 13 kids, 7 jobs, no husband/wife while trying to destroy the one ring. Then they get on here and post stupid questions and this is where the split occurs. Either you get people to come in and coddle the person and blow rainbows up their skirt, or you get the people like me and most in this thread that get tired of these stupid questions and inject some light into the thread.
This is where the next split occurs. Either you get the young newbies stating how mean and crusty the old nurses are. Or you get the old crusty bats that come in and say that the newbies have it easy/are in for a shock.
Then it goes back and forth rinse and repeat until a Mod gets in a shuts it down because someone gets their butt hurt. Its fun to sit back and watch.
I really like That Guy, where is he anyway!!?
Young(ish) nurses, I think I've got it figured out. New signature speaks for itself.Batling in training
"Not too old, not too crusty, but a bat nonetheless..."
Love this!!!
I will gladly wear all white and a cap, take two-day long boards and clip toenails (because now-a-days we call podiatry:rolleyes:) just to show how loyal I could be to this sig!
Too bad I can't have a sig line yet:(
Here is my personal fav--
Thread #1--Something is happening to a "friend"--vauge, not much information, but requires a detailed answer that is mostly picked apart by an OP
Thread #2--A week or 2 later, when the same thing that happend to the friend has now happend to the OP. And it was soul crushing. What to do? Glazes over answers, as continual input by Op is "this was NOT my fault"
Thread #3--In multiple forums, an OP is close to hysterical, why does this always happen to me, no one knows my struggles, I was in the top of my class, got all A++'s on my research papers, everyone at clincal said I could manage this unit after I graduate......but ya'll are mean, bitter old nurses who don't want anyone to succeed.
Sigh....then comes the "I don't like your answers, you all stink, this forum stinks, ya'll are jealous and rude. And soul sucking. So goodbye I am outta here".......
If someone has a legitimate question, then give as much as you can without getting all crazy with the identifying details. Know that not everyone is going to be on your side. If nothing else, gives you pause to think about if the comments one finds so distasteful is in fact a valid opinion AS APPLICABLE to you. Take what you need, and just don't take the rest. We, as a collective group, have hundreds of years as nurses. If we would like to ream someone out and just generally be disagreeable for the sake of disagreement, we would go to social media......JUST sayin......
Really? I'd be a better nurse if, a patient were crashing, I looked up a protocol rather than having the charge/resource nurse assist me? Interesting. .
Nobody is talking about refusing to help you if you have a patient "crashing" or any emergent situation. They explicitly mention questions the preceptee has for the preceptor. As in, non-emergent situations.
ETA: ICULINDA already said this better than I could.
I believe what the OP is saying that if you ask for advise and/or help, the polite thing to do is thank the people that have years of experience helping you. Don't be rude, and please don't get snotty with them. Learn some respect.I may have not written an individual thank you to each person that has answered my questions, but at least I acknowledge them. So thank you ladies and gents for all your help, and all your hard work.
Flowers and candy would be nice, too. (Skip the flowers for me, though; I'm allergic to them.)
You are right about that, though. There have been times I've responded in a PM to someone regarding an issue, and you get
