Anyone else applying to the Accelerated BSN?? Deadline is November 1st ... YIKES! ... ... need moral support
!!
The acceptance letter finally came today, it was postmarked 1/13/09, so it took 8 days to travel one town over.
Congrats Slider!
Dang, 8 days to travel one town over? OK, I am in FL. At that rate I will more than likely get my letter at this time: :tree:
Yeah, that's right ... guess who is still waiting .... :anbd:
I received my letter of acceptance last Tuesday. I'm a Stony Brook alumnus, and I'm also male, which undoubtedly factored into their decision.
I worried myself sick during the summer thinking about the application process. The endless waiting after November 1st still has my stomach in a twist. I'm now finally understanding the magnitude of everything. I got into my top choice and I get to save MONEY!
So, here is the information people want to know:
Solar changed within the first week of January. As the case with others, a "new students" tab appeared even in the case of a past SBU graduate.
GPA : 3.13 B.S. Health Science
A&P I : C+ (Nassau CC)
A&P II: IP
MICRO : B+ (IP at the time of application)
BIO 110: B+ (Nassau CC)
At the time of application I was missing Micro and the second half of A&P.
I know my rec letters were immaculate and my essays were excellent. I'm just a humble person trying to comprehend how I got accepted. I realize that several people commenting on this thread are more deserving than I am.
I would absolutely HATE being on the decision making committee...
I wish you all the best and hope to get to know each and every one of you at Stony Brook.
So I did a little research and found that Stony Brook has a reputation as a "suitcase school"--nearly 50% of students leave on the weekends. Thats a little depressing, isn't it? At least I can find some solace in knowing my weekends will be devoted to studying... but so much for the option of a social life

They probably put a lot of stock in your essay, I know that was probably the strongest part of my application. Its also possible that they reject candidates that they feel are overqualified for the program--colleges have been known to do that in order to protect their rankings (apparently, if too large a percent of the accepted applicants decline the offer, it wreaks havoc on their reputation). But who really knows?
For those of you who received the scholarship letter, are you planning to apply?
Also, whats the deal with housing? I know accelerated nursing students get to stay in the Chapin apartments (though they're normally reserved for Grad Students). Does anybody know the procedure to secure a spot there?
