Stony Brook U ABSN - Summer 2010 Applicants

U.S.A. New York

Anyone else applying to the accelerated BSN?? Deadline is November 1st ... YIKES! ... ... need moral support :D !!

Wow, they only give you 5 DAYS to accept the offer of admission?? That's so unusual, at least from my experience with undergrad - I had at least a few weeks to let them know! One can't even take financial aid into account :(

They don't require a deposit when you send your answer in though. But its definitely not much time!

That's interesting about there being no dep, never heard of that before (go Stony Brook). I guess perhaps when people later determine whether or not they can attend after financial aid awards are final the waitlist is then activated?

Check me out trying to determine the method to their madness .. I need to stop ... :D

I was curious if anyone has the same thing going on as me right now. My status changed on the Solar system (new student tab appeared on 1/10/10). Ive recieved no letter yet. So basically I was curious if anyone had their Solar "new student" tab appear and not get a letter yet?

Oooh, this thread was quiet today ... :D ... y'all would know if I knew something by now.

Slider313, if my SOLAR has changed since a few days ago I would not know, I am purposely staying away from it. I am committed to waiting for the decision in the mail, the old fashioned way! :) Need to keep my sanity in check!

hey guys.. so it was a small envelope and i didn't get in :-/ really, these are competetive grounds-- so if you did get in, congratulationsssss :) i think i'm most annoyed at the fact that now i have to apply to other places! oh well. anyway for others who don't get in, i have a 3.72 gpa with about 6 years of patient care experience, so i really do believe them when they say their applicant pool was competetive. good luck to everyone and this is just one school, there are many many more!

So I've been told that a decision has not yet been made on my application. However, I called the folks in the nursing department and they said all decisions have been made. What does this mean???

Wow sorry to hear that but I am really surprised you didnt get in.....Do you mind me asking what your undergrad degree was in?

Wow cara, sorry to hear that you didn't get in, but with those credentials you're sure to get in somewhere! If you didn't make it in, I'm quite certain it's over for me :lol2: It's all good though, b/c I've got apps in at four other schools, so fingers crossed for one of those. Good luck to you! :yeah:

I'm of the mindset now that if Stony Brook is meant to be, it will happen. Same scenario with any school. Stony Brook happens to be the only school I applied to this year and if it's not meant to be I will go to my plan B, which would be applying to evening programs and perhaps if time allows ABSN again next year. I will probably be more comfortable knowing ALL my prereqs are done when I apply anyway so that they have a FULL picture of my academics (without leaving them hanging to wonder how I will do in micro this sem). I hate to think that they take things as pending coursework into consideration, but one never knows what these admiss people are looking at despite what they publicly say.

It's the frikking WAIT that drives me mad ... :D ... I have not checked Solar in like 2-3 days and I am happy about just waiting for the mail :p ... no calling Stony Brook, no checking Solar, no psychic network calls, lol. Just send me the letter/packet/box of chocolates whatever already!

Cara, what's meant for you will come to you! You do indeed have impressive credentials and some school out there perfect for you will take you at the right time!

Got some new information today. I called general admissions and they gave me the number to the health department, but the lady also mentioned it is a good sign if you have the "New Students Tab". When I called the health department, I was told that something was mailed out to me on the 11th, but they weren't allowed to say what type of letter they sent (rejection/acceptance). Also those waiting for letters be patient. My boss used to work at Stonybrook and he said their mail room is really slow. So they may tell you they mailed something out, but it may take up to a week to get because who knows when the USPS actually recieves it.

I'm actually an English major at Tufts, but I was pre-med from freshman year, then switched to pre-nursing starting sophomore year, so i've been doing prereq's for a long time. english is just a hobby ;)

thanks for all your wishes! i'm looking now at Pace, UMDNJ, and Concordia. I'd really like a 12 month program because of the new requirement (have you guys heard of this?): if you want to be a nurse practitioner, starting in 2015 you'll start to need a doctorate. if you get a masters before 2015 though, you can be "grandfathered" in and NOT have to get a doctorate.

wow..i knew they were slowly bringing in the doctorate but i didnt know that it would be a requirement for the NP soon. 5 years flies when you are in school. I want to get my masters soon but i dont know yet. well i guess even if you do the two yr program and work a yr you may still be able to make it for 2015? they did this w/ PT too. I feel like i will never be done w/ school...lol. Is Concordia upstate?
