How to find your NICHE in nursing??
Yes, I received my BSN in May of 2011. I did the 12 month accelerated program, never doing that again! I felt like I had to cram everything in that year. Took the boards in a month and a half and passed on the first try. I'd say it was worth it in the end. I definitely want to go back and get my MPH. However, I want to get some RN experience to make myself more marketable and hopefully save enough money to pay for the tuition. Such a competitive job market all around.

Fired for giving Med late
I just read that you resigned from your job. How's the job search going for you? I'm afraid no hospital will hire me because I was terminated in such a short period of time.

Fired for giving Med late
I know exactly how you are feeling. I was terminated without warning. I was still orienting and I brought up a safety issue to my supervisor. I was also passive when I was pretty sure I was going to be terminated, feeling like I could have done more to save my job. The thing is you don't have to be given a reason for termination when you're on probation. Don't dwell too much on the ifs and buts. Getting fired is always an awful experience. I learned from my mistake, life goes on.

How to find your NICHE in nursing??
I do want to go into public health someday doing public awareness campaigns and providing care in underserved areas. I am very interested in world health and epidemiology. I know that it's important to have that one year's hospital experience since that's where we will get to hone in on essential skills like time management, patient education, and maintaining the confidence and composure under stressful situations. I have a passion for writing and travelling. My dream is to work for the CDC or WHO.

new graduate RN -- terminated after 2 months
No, this was not an issue of discrimination. Okay, maybe I exaggerated a bit by saying I had to work 10x harder to stand out as a male nurse. What I mean is providing genuine and compassionate care doesn't always come naturally for me. I know that I have to be very aware and conscious of what I say or do because I might be misread as lacking empathy. Men tend to be more stoic and we don't show our emotions all the time towards our patients. Maybe I am being too hard on myself. I had some issues with anxiety and depression growing up, but am better equipped to confront these issues and work towards improving myself for the better.

How to find your NICHE in nursing??
Hello to all my fellow nurses, I am a new RN who is struggling to find my niche. I know most people say to work in a hospital for the first year and then you can go anywhere. What if the hospital is not a right fit for me? Always a struggle dealing with workplace politics, I guess there is no way around that. I also have a hard time organizing my time between a group of patients and maintaining my composure in a high-stress environment. I have always wanted to work in public health, it seems like most area clinics want you to have a year of hospital experience?? This is just BS to me. I feel like I should be given a chance without the year's experience. I am a compassionate male nurse motivated to work in a clinic providing one to one patient care and education. How can I sell myself to private practice managers in such a competitive environment where experience is valued over potential and drive?

How do u explain a termination on an application?!?
Hi, I hope things have started to look up. I have recently been terminated from my first nursing job at a major teaching hospital. I was told that I don't have to be given a reason for termination since I was still on probation as a new nurse. I know most nurses will be let go because the unit they're working on is not the right fit, yada yada. I'm curious, noticed that you got your first nursing job at a doctor's office. How long did it take you to get the job and how did you find out about the opening? I am seriously considering an RN job in a doctor's office, any tips or advice greatly appreciated!

new graduate RN -- terminated after 2 months
Thank you for the words of encouragement :-) May I ask what field of nursing you're in? I am questioning whether bedside nursing is for me. Don't get me wrong, I love doing all the care required of a bedside nurse, just sick of the politics that go on in the hospital environment. I have seriously thought about working for the city health department or the CDC doing public health nursing. My impression is that you need some nursing experience before they will consider hiring you. I am going to work with the connections I have now, not sure how far that will get me towards landing a job.

Got terminated from first job cant find new one, still a newgrad
Hi, I can relate to your post on many levels. Definitely went through all the stages of Kubler Ross grief model. DABDA!!! Now I know this happened to me, I am not the only one and definitely won't be the last. All this free time has allowed me to reflect on my experiences as a new nurse struggling in a stressful work environment. I need to figure out what to do next. I did the same thing on my job applications. I put down terminated for not satisfying probationary requirements. Like you said, I'd rather not sugarcoat it and say it as it is. How long did it take you to land an interview?

new graduate RN -- terminated after 2 months
hi all, i was recently terminated from my rn job at a major teaching hospital. i was let go after working there for only 2 months. how do you move on after this? i was in denial for the first 2 weeks, now reality is setting in and i need to figure out what to do next. i loved being a nurse, but i am questioning whether hospital nursing is for me. i always felt like i had to try 10x harder to fit into a profession that is predominately female. i held my own in my interactions with my patients, they gave me wonderful testimonials, i've been told i will go on to become a doctor and that i have great bedside manners. i know medical school is not possible at this point in time because i don't have the funds to afford medical school and i know i can't handle working the grueling hours of a medical resident. i would like to connect with other nurses who have been in my situation. how long did it take you to find a job and how do you explain your termination on job applications?

Binghamton U Accelerated Nursing Program
Okay cool. Are you from the area? I'm from NYC. Are you looking into campus housing? I plan on living in Hillside, I think we have to apply separately for summer housing...so annoying!

Binghamton U Accelerated Nursing Program
Has anyone submitted their deposit to Binghamton already? I am waiting to do that this week and I was wondering if you got more information regarding on-campus housing and course scheduling. The acceptance letter was quite generic...agree?

Due to financial issues, I have decided to release my seat as well. I just got accepted to another accelerated nursing program and will be going there instead. Good luck waitlist hopefuls :)
