Stony Brook U ABSN - Summer 2010 Applicants

Published

Anyone else applying to the Accelerated BSN?? Deadline is November 1st ... YIKES! ... ... need moral support :D !!

ok, so i did not get anything in the mail today, and am preparing for the worst. however, my question for those of you who were lucky enough to get letters today (congrats!)..did any of you not have your solar pages change before receiving the letter?

checked the mail, nothing from SBU. Starting to feel like a masochist every time I check Solar or the mail and see nothing new. I'm starting to think these east coast schools just don't like me very much,

Lol, I was considering asking the same question :yeah:

Not to be a downer or anything (and in our case I hope that I am dead wrong because I am sure there have been exceptions to what I am about to say):

Do you think Stony Brook gives preference to New York State residents? I read on some other thread here that SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn does in fact prioritize admission to state residents first, which is why I declined to apply there. I have not heard this about Stony Brook but since it's also SUNY I can't help to wonder. Figures the one year I decide to go for Stony Brook it's the year I'm not a resident anymore ...

:igtsyt:

In the event I don't get into Stony Brook this year, I am going to consider the ADN and then pursue an online RN-BSN (which Stony Brook also has). By then I hope to be back in NY. Either way, I will keep reapplying if the timing is right, because it's a fine school for an Accelerated BSN. I will never give up my goal to be a nurse ...

:yeah:

they probably do, given they are a state institution. This is part of the reason why UNM is my first choice, because it is an excellent program that now takes NM residents almost exclusively...so I can't blame SBU for giving NY residents priority, but I also wish that if that is the case, they had been more upfront about it.

Nothing in the mail for me today either from SB ... but at least I got my paycheck :D so it's not all a waste!

I finally got the mail... I got in! Good luck to everyone... Please let me know if you have any questions.

Congratulations Mellieinab! :yeah:

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum but I have been reading all the threads. Just too lazy to create an account. Just want to spread my good news to everyone that I have also been accepted :D Got the letter in the mail today and my solar account did have a "For new students" tab too. I am just wondering if anyone is also waiting for the 2 years program too? Congrats to those who got accepted. :yeah:

Specializes in Hobbits.

Reposted from Accelerated Nursing Program @ Stony Brook Question :)

I just received my acceptance today!! I'm absolutely over the moon--I was concerned I wouldn't be accepted anywhere.

For those of you who are curious, I had a 3.18 UGrad GPA from UCSB (Bio Major, Minors in Writing and Japanese) and a 3.6 GPA in the prereqs. Not super impressive, but I had strong rec letters and a really strong essay.

Now that I'm accepted, I'm really curious about the program details. I've heard my fair share of horror stories about nursing schools in general (vague and confusing teaching methods, abusive teachers, poor program organization) and, though it would be nice to avoid these problems completely, it's better to know about them beforehand if they exist. I've combed allnurses and found little specific info about Stony Brook's program.

Are teachers helpful and friendly?

Are there any teachers or classes that are really difficult?

Do instructors provide the information needed to succeed in the course, or expect you to find it yourself?

Is it hard to deal with the School of Nursing's bureaucracy?

If you hardly sleep, is that because of the nursing curriculum in general or the nursing curriculum at Stony Brook?

How is the stony brook student life?

Any info you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks.
