ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
Does anyone know how this alternate list thins works? Are we assigned a number and are called in order if space becomes available or is it randomly? helpBTW I dreamt I got in. hopefully this is some kind of foreshadowing.
LMAO! I think all of us at some point have dreamt that we got in somewhere, but in my case it did happen. Hopefully it will be a reality for you! As far as waitlists go, I am pretty sure the waitlist is in a particular order. I can't imagine a school randomly calling a candidate from the waitlist where they could have called a more qualified one. I don't know what kind of critieria is used to rank them, but I am pretty sure there is one, there's got to be some order to it when it comes to calling them for admission (and of course, most schools won't tell you how they are ranked or what number you are on it). Could you imagine the mess that can ensue if they can just call anyone from the waitlist? For starters, anyone with "connections" can easily manipulate that!
Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding the FAFSA application, I do not understand the following questions on the application;
Q 29. When you begin the 2011-2012 school year, what will be your grade level? (Am not sure if the answer should be attended college before/1st year OR 1st year graduate/ professional).
Q 30. When you begin the 2011-2012 school year, what degree or certificate will you be working on? ( Am not sure if the answer should be 2nd degree bachelors OR Graduate/professional degree). I wolud appreciate it if anyone can be of help, regarding this 2 questions.
Secondly, I called FAFSA to ask if I can apply for the Federal Direct Plus Loans as an independent student, but was told Nursing is not considered a professional degree. I am so confused with the answer she gave me, I would have thought Nursing is a professional degree
answers in red :)

2nd degree bachelors.

a professional degree is usually one that is earned to qualify someone to apply for licensure in a particular field beyond the bachelor's level. law degrees and medical degrees are the only professional degrees i am aware of (for financial aid purposes). still boggles my mind why nursing would not be considered one since it falls in the same definition, perhaps because of the bachelor's thing.
hello paco, did you get my last reply.
yes! did you have a question in it that went unanswered? sorry, i'll recheck - i have been mostly in "read" mode with pms lately due to work. my work email drains me from even replying to personal email, sadly. i hope as nurses we don't have as many work emails
Hello Paco,
Thank you so much for your response, I really do appreciate it. For the last couple of days, I have been struggling with the application and loans stuff, and my school would not answer the phone nor reply to my mails. I will go ahead and complete my application, and just forget about the Plus loans.
I guess the reality is setting in for everyone, this is a very busy moment for all, and I really do understand because I am drained at the end of each day. Anyway, thanks for rescuing me with this stuff, and let me know when you make your decision.
Hello all!
It's been pretty quiet on this thread lately which was to be expected after decisions were made but where are all the 2 year hopefulls? Coming here for support used to help ease the waiting process, please keep it up... April is taking a long time to get here!
Paco- have you decided where you will be heading for school?
Hope everyone is well :)

Believe it or not, I have NOT ... not 100% yet. But I am very close. I can tell you this much, I have never been so stressed out over a decision as I have been with this. I mean, this is going to change my whole life! Choosing one school over the other will impact my life not just for the next year but for the next several. It may very well determine where I will work as an RN and what happens thereafter. I have recently discovered that there are so many factors to consider besides cost. Thankfully, the deadline to finalize all this is looming so I will come to a decision soon. Good luck with the 2-year program decision!! :)

I'm still here, waiting! I've actually been up to Stony Brook Hospital almost every day visiting a friend who is very sick. She is getting such great treatment there and I can't wait to be learning it all!!!!!

im a 2-yr hopeful!! and its killing me! everyday i check solar and tell myself how much i hate SB for making this such a painful experience lol
I'm still waiting to hear from the 2 year program as well, not so patiently. Knowing that we'll find out so soon, but not knowing exactly when is hard. I've got my eyes on the first week in April, although who knows they did only say the "beginning of April". Hopefully sooner than later.

hello paco,
just to let you know that that i received a fafsa correction request from my school, saying (question #29) should be answered as 5th year undergraduate student.
