ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
in case anyone hasn't noticed, i requested that the mods rename this thread to:
stony brook bsn - summer/fall 2011 applicants
i noticed a lot more of you are posting here now about the wait for the fall 2011 traditional bsn, so i wanted to make sure you (and other allnurses members not yet on here) were included in the discussion ... now that the absn summer 2011 posts seems to be dying down. but since i see there has been lots of good information posted on here that can be used by both classes, i thought it was good to keep it all in one place rather than spread it out among many threads. good luck to those still waiting!
btw, accepted and waitlisted Accelerated BSN students: don't forget to join the facebook group that was created, there is a lot of discussion with your future classmates there pertinent to acceptance, orientation and required paperwork. simply go to facebook and search "stony brook absn class of 2012!" and request to join (yes, the name also includes the exclamation point).
hey everyone.. i'm on the alternate list for stony brook absn program and am just curious as to how the whole thing will work. someone mentioned that last year 6 people didn't show up on the first day of class and alternates were then called.once accepted, you have a certain number of days to submit a pretty small deposit, correct? that deposit will then hold your spot until class starts and payment for the first summer session is due? i’m assuming that the full payment isn’t due until class begins?
just wondering if many people pay the deposit to hold their spot while they make their final decisions…
christine, i assume you do have to submit your deposit fairly quickly if you're called to the class that soon after orientation begins. not sure how that all really works with waitlisted-then-accepted students (i never got off the waitlist last year and i don't personally know anyone who was called from it). as an accepted student this year however, i can tell you that all i have done so far is click the i accept button on solar in response to the offer of admission that was there. it was assurance for me to having something in place until i heard from the other 2 schools on my end that were still pending (which i have since heard from). i have yet to pay the deposit, it's actually due by april 1st. however, i am personally making my final decision tomorrow (3/25/11) between sbu and another school, so if i do select sbu i will be paying that deposit online tomorrow.
hi paco. thanks so much for that very helpful info! i was curious as to how easy it was for accepted students to just say "yes. i am coming." as a way to keep all options while they figure things out.
after the april 1st deposit deadline, when is the next payments for class due? was there a mention of that yet? i figure people are likely to make a small deposit even if they aren't sure they are attending, but are less likely to start making payments for classes, etc. without being 100% certain...

soalr says the deposit is refundable if the request is received within 30 days of the offer of admission or the first day of class, whichever is earlier, for the spring semester (which i assume also applies to summer). for the fall, it states requests must be made within 30 days of offer or may 1, whichever is later. i don't see mention of any further payments due after this.
very interesting, thank you! i'm just trying to gauge if/when some spots will free up as the first round of accepted make their final decisions -- aka confirm attendance with large sums of money :-)
i'd guess that not too much money need be paid that far in advance of program start though - it would be surprising that six people forfeited tuition last year when they didn't show up on the first day. perhaps they forfeited only the deposit.
The tuition deposit is $150. I suppose if one accepts the offer and does not not pay by April 1st, then the seat will very well go to a waitlister. Then if someone decides to just not go to orientation I believe they will lose the deposit or get it back, depending when they paid it. Classes don't begin until week after orientation. Some students hang on until they hear from all schools. I got into Univ of Miami and they wanted non-refundable $300 with my acceptance of their offer within 10 days and then like $800 more later on ... all before Stony Brook released decisions. Yeah right, I said ... LOL. Stony Brook will always fill up a class somehow. I guess this is why they have a fair refund policy.
It's almost midnight, and I have decided ... I just don't need to prolong my agony any longer ...
:pntrghi: I'm headed to Stony Brook!
100% happy with my decision, I am very much looking forward to it! I got my first bachelor's on Long Island, how appropriate is it to go back for my 2nd?
I will sleep well tonight :zzzzz ...

Yay Paco! I guess my chanting worked! I remember you saying you wanted to be back in NY, now you have a very good reason to be here. Enjoy your return, good luck!

This is the last email I received from SB about the 2 year program:
"We expect to receive decisions from the School of Nursing for the Two Year Basic Baccalaureate program in early April. Decisions will be sent through SOLAR and by mail."
Hopefully this is still true, or at least I would think they would send out another email informing us of a different date.
