ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
It's almost midnight, and I have decided ... I just don't need to prolong my agony any longer ...:pntrghi: I'm headed to Stony Brook!
100% happy with my decision, I am very much looking forward to it! I got my first bachelor's on Long Island, how appropriate is it to go back for my 2nd?
I will sleep well tonight :zzzzz ...
Yay! That's wonderful! Hopefully I'll see you there when I get into the 2 year program. :)
Hey paco i have a question i am not sure if you have posted this before but i am intrested to know were you are from. :) You are a male and you are so lively so in love with nursing. I am just curious
Do you mean where I grew up? Born and raised in NYC ... I have lived in FL for the last 5 years, I actually came down here for some career direction, it's where I figured out that nursing was my calling (don't ask me WHY I could not do that in NY, perhaps I needed sun and palm trees to help me along
) ... but now it all makes sense. Life is going the way I want it to, finally!
Everyone waiting to hear from the 2-year program: Hope you are hanging in there! I am sure you will hear something soon, hopefully positive news. Been thinking of you all and I know it's hard to wait. But ever since I decided to choose Stony Brook, I have been convinced that I made the right choice! So if you get in, know you're getting into a top-notch program! I can't wait to get back HOME!
Hi everyone! I'm new to this thread but I applied for the two year program at Stony Brook as well. I would be transferring from the University of Central Florida. It's good to see that everyone is as anxious as I am to find out, but April starts this week!Good luck :)
Good luck to you kerr531 and welcome to the thread ...
I was accepted to the Accelerated BSN at both Stony Brook and UCF this year. I ultimately chose Stony Brook because in the long run I want to return to NY which is my home state. Also, I like the fact that Stony Brook's nursing school is right there on the Health Sciences campus next to SBUMC with access to all it has to offer. UCF's nursing school does not have this kind of setup yet - they are kind of isolated in the research park next to campus and won't be in Lake Nona for another 10 years. UCF's main campus however is beautful ... but shame the nursing school is no longer physically a part of it. However, I know I made the right decision for me!
Congrats paco! NY is my home state as well which is one of the reasons I've applied to SBU. I'm really hoping that I get accepted to Stony Brook because I would love to go back home and I also like the fact that everything is in the same area, unlike UCF. You are very lucky to be able to go there, it's such a good school.

Thanks! It was a REALLY tough decision for me. Paying in-resident tuition was a very compelling reason to stay but in the end I know I was wanting to go back home anyway. This was in fact my window of opportunity. Had I attended UCF I would have probably stayed after graduation for I don't know how long. I think it will be easier for me to compete for jobs in NY with a Stony Brook BSN than one from UCF, especially when the rest of my education has also been in NY. I will be more in debt but for me it's the better decision. Thankfully attending Stony Brook as a non-resident is still way cheaper than going to NYU or any other private school.
Paco, glad you reached your decision, congratulations. I am only a few miles from SBU and I am often up there for lacrosse games and past visits to my daughter when whe went there (actually still does for grad school), for social studies secondary ed. I know you already know, but they have a great rep locally and the few folks that I know in the 2 year program rave about the place and people. Good luck this summer!
