Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

Yeah and I called this morning and they said beginning of april.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I heard decisions are coming out the end of April 2012!!!

Oh wait, that's for next year's class ... :p

Paco, have you started packing? I hate packing because I always feel like I forgot something! Good luck with it!

Um, yeah ... the process has begun and it's going reeeeeeaaaaaally slooooooooooow .... :D

I have a storage unit now here in FL that I am placing things in little by little, things I know I want to keep but won't need for at least a year. I am basically planning to leave with whatever fits in my car for the next year. During the program I just want to hole it up in some room in someone's house and study until I am done in a year. That's the plan. Once I settle down with a job and get a nice place of my own after graduation, then I will retrieve my things from here. Just not prepared to move everything with me right now. Memorial Day weekend will be busy for me, I will be preparing to vacate my present apt. that weekend and head north the beginning of June since orientation begins at the end of that month. Very excited, though! :yeah:

ITS APRIL!!!! :D I think I am going to literally go crazy checking the Solar site everyday - at least twice a day!!!! Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!

Believe me, you will know when SOLAR "changes" for you - it's quite noticeable. When you log in now, you probably just see one or two boxes on your screen under "Solar System", one of them being Student Admissions where you can check the status of your transcripts and recommendations. If you're accepted, they add a LOT more boxes , particularly ones that say "For New Students" and "Student Records and Registration". I forgot where it's located, but you will want to find a tiny link under one of these boxes that says Application Decision, something like that. This is where you will find a letter with blue buttons to click to accept or decline the offer of admission. Waitlisters I know don't get screen changes like this, because a year ago mine never changed. So if you don't get the screen changes, don't fret right away, it could be a waitlist, not necessarily a "no."

I can no longer say for sure what the links exactly say, because my SOLAR has since changed little by little since I accepted, paid deposit and filled out student preferences.

Good luck, though!

Paco! hey long time no.....post?

haha ... how were you notified that you were waitlisted???

Wow Paco69> THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have two internships in an emergency room and another around NYC plus i have been volunteering since January. I cant wait i don't see myself in any other place but STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY. The thing is that i already messed up in my anatomy class and got a D+ now i am re taking it pretty sure i will get an A. After i apply i will already have my associates in biology. I will be taking upper level bio classes and i hope to get A's as well. My question is that do they acknowledge these courses even though they are not part of their curriculum. They are still biology classes so i hope they do. I can not wait, all this hard work i am putting out write now is simply for SBU.

Thank you for being so helpful and congrats on pursing your degree here in New York (best decision Ever!!) :yelclap:

Where you been? :D

I got a letter, that's how I found out I was waitlisted last year. My SOLAR did not change at all. I kept seeing everyone saying their SOLAR changed but mine wasn't, and never did. Unlike this year, when I found out through SOLAR that I got in and the change was dramatic to the SOLAR screen.

I forgot - are you waitlisted this year?

Keep up the good work! Sounds like you're on the right path! BTW, don't "hope" to get A's, get in the mindset of making it happen!! Don't know how much they take other coursework into consideration beyong the prereqs, but do make sure you ace those prereqs!

You're not alone! I have a couple of D's on my undergrad transcript too, in Gen Bio and Gen Chem my very first semester of college, long time ago! Clearly, this is something that they didn't hold against me especially since I made good with top grades later on. I was so stupid back then, smart and 18 but stupid, as I lost focus and hung out too much with new friends in the dorms and forgot about school. That won't ever happen again, I know better now. Actually, I got my act together the following semester. Missed graduating with honors by 0.05 too because of that first semester. That will always haunt me, but perhaps I can make up for that @ Stony Brook! :) There's also an extra motivator for me: I want to go to Columbia Univ for my graduate nursing degree later on, so I need to make sure I do well!

Hey cookie don't worry about a couple of bad grades. I ***** up a lot my first 2 years of college, and now I'm currently in the ABSN program which I am very very thankful for. I originally was a chemistry major then when I transferred to Stony Brook I was a pharmacology major. So I had a bunch of courses not related to the nursing curriculum. Although they tell you to fill out a form to state where the corresponding pre-reqs are, I'm sure they look at all the work you put into. Anyway hope that answers your question... Good luck with everything

moocow1213, so did you apply to the program while you were a student in stony brook university? Do you think that made a difference that you got good grades in pharmacology. How long did it take you to complete all that and get into their nursing program? Thank you so much for your response :)

Wow!!!! It is super quiet on this thread! FYI I was at the School of Nursing, and they are preparing the "packages" to be mailed out. I have seen it myself (well not the actual letters and names or anything..I wish!) So I am assuming any day now???

I am praying for all of us to get in, as I know many of us are relying on this to jump-start our futures. I wish all of you the best of luck!

Paco...forgot to mention that my cousin who's in the Marines, taught me a trick of rolling your clothes to make more space in your suitcase....hope that helps! Have you found a place yet? Because all over campus there are postings for "rooms to rent" and I would be more than happy to jot down the names and numbers to send over to you. Also you may want to try Stony Brook's main page then current students, then under housing, facilities and dining you will see a link for off campus housing. I hope that helps! Have fun packing!!!

Thanks so much for the update!! I'm sitting on pins and needles in anticipation of a response. I'm still hoping for some news this week, but we'll see.

Ohhhhhhhh Boyyyy!!! :sofahider

Hopefully. But I do know that they are sending it out randomly and not alphabetically. When I looked back on the previous pages of this thread, I did notice that many people (for the Accelerated program) started receiving notifications around the second week in February. So hopefully we'll hear something soon!!!
