Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

Hello everyone,

I am one of applicants of the 2-yr program. However, I get a problem here.

I didn't take the BLS/AED yet, just wonder where did you take it? Must I take as a course or I can just do some no credit clinic?

Thanks a lot!

I took mine at Long Island Rescue in Ronkonkoma. They have a website: http://www.lirescue.org/

I didn't take it either. But from what the SofN told me, once you've been accepted, you have to take it ASAP. But they have the resources as to where to take it. So I wouldn't be so concerned about it. Hope that helps!

Same here. When I questioned that at one of the info sessions, I was told to not worry about getting that until after being accepted. If we get in, we can do it over the summer I presume, I don't think it's a long course.

You are right. From what I was told we could do it in one weekend! So no worries. Did you know that Stony Brook offers it as a Summer class and you get 3 credits for it? A friend of mines was telling me that's what he did last summer. For me it is not a smart thing to do, because I pay International fees and believe me, it's not cheap! I think there are cheaper ways to acquire certification.

i recommend getting your bls done out of the way now, that way you won't have to worry about it later on! :) i did mine last year while i was waitlisted, nothing better to do. however, that means i have to renew it while i am in the program, but i don't mind doing that. you might want to call sbu and ask what courses are available and where. the ones i have seen online are @ $95-99 in the li area for initial certification (maybe there are cheaper ones out there?). i guess i am lucky that i was able to do mine in fl for ~$40. when i renew though in li, it will be about $55. go figure, lol! and make sure it's american heart association certification!

Hey everyone!

I have been following this thread for a while and it has been very helpful. I am also waiting to hear from the 2 year basic bsn program, not with much patience. Good luck to everyone, I hope we hear some news soon!!

i'd like to just get it out of the way and do it now, but i'm taking 18 credits right now and have a 3 year old son. i'll wait till the semester ends and then get right on it. even if i don't get into stony brook, i'll still need it for the other nursing program i'm waiting on.

I don't know how to deliver a baby, but I guess I will learn that within the next year, won't I? :D At least I'll be ready if I ever encounter a mannequin going into labor. :lol2:

LOL!!!! You're too funny!!!

The BLS course I took here on Long Island cost $120 and it was supposed to be about a 5 1/2 hour course, but we were done in about 3 hours and I got my certification card right there that day.

Thanks very much to everyone who answered. I'm appreciated and still waiting for the news. Good luck to all!
