Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

I got my response, I did not get in to the 2 year program either :crying2:

I'll apply again next year

I didn't get in either. I can't believe it, I have a 4.0 gpa, volunteer at their hospital since last May, got 4 good recommendations and worked my butt off on my personal statement. I guess their is no real rhyme or reason behind it. Hopefully I get into Suffolk Community's ADN program. I can't wait another year to apply, let alone the stress again. Good Luck to everyone else! :)

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.
paco, you're right. They try to appease us so we stop calling, I'm sure they're sick of hearing from potential students. Regardless of being the first to post about a decision response I still check Solar in the morning and in the afternoon, by night I know there will be no change. I can't help myself, I'm going CRAZY!!!

You would think they'd come up with something that would minimize the phone calls!! I mean really ...

Aw shucks!!! :crying2: I am sad to hear this news.

Glad however that you (chele118) won't give up! Like someone said, they do give re-applicants special consideration. Make sure you indicate that on your application next year (there is a space for indicating that you applied before). Perhaps that was my good fortune. Don't forget your SOLAR ID, there is a space to add that in so it can be reused! Good luck with that! I want to come back on allnurses next year and hear good news from you! You might want to start the Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2012 Applicants thread :D .. I am sending you my good vibes!!

As for you kjm84, best of luck with the Suffolk admission! You can always try for the Stony Brook RN-to-BSN and get your BSN that way, and let the hospital pay for it, wherever you end up working. When there is a will there is a way! Stay positive and excel at everything you do in the program if you get in there. Sending my good vibes to you too!

Thanks Paco. I didn't think I would be as upset about it as I am, I can't stop crying, but I know there is a better plan out there for me, and I won't give up, SB is where I want to go for nursing, so I will look into a CNA program in the meantime so I can get a job in the field.

I'm hoping to see some good news on this blog tonight, no more denials, let's see some accepted people. :)

Sit down and evaluate your application and see where you can improve. Grades? Recommendation people? Essay? There has to be something in one or more of those that can use an upgrade. Then when you re-apply you will be stronger than ever! Everything happens for a reason! Seriously! I was bummed when I did not get into Stony Brook last year after all that waiting but in hindsight it was meant to be that way. Had I gotten in last year and left FL a year ago, I would have missed out on some opportunities that happened this year (not-job related, but an extra year of working did not hurt either ... ok well it did, psychologically, but in the end it was worth the wait :D).

Thanks Paco, I knew you'd make me laugh. I'm going to look into a CNA program so I can find a job in the field. My unemployment will run out and I don't want to go back to my former occupation.

Thanks so much. That was always my intention if I didn't get into Stony Brook. I would go to just get my ADN from Suffolk and then do the RN to BSN program at Stony Brook, since it's not so competitive. It's going to take longer, but whatever gets me to be an RN will work. Thanks for the support!

Specializes in NICU, neonates, newborns.

My solar hasn't changed!!!!!!!!! I am so frustrated.

I'm sorry to you guys who got denied :( I am not just saying it- so much work you put in. Keep you heads up.
