Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

So I just happen to be browsing on the Stony Brook University Facebook page and I saw the following comment from the school to someone's question regarding admissions decisions. His question however, did not specify whether it was about the nursing program, but I would like to think for the sake of those waiting that the following also applies to you. This was posted about 22 hours ago, according to the comment:

Yes, only about 25% of admissions decisions have been released thus far, and all applicants will be notified by April 1. When a student applies isn't as important as when their application gets completed (provided they apply before the deadline), but there are other factors that we need to consider like space in the class and the strength of the applicant pool before we feel comfortable releasing some decisions. We want to make sure we're giving all applicants the best shot we can. Hang in there.

They seem to answer questions quite quickly on that page. Perhaps that will be faster than the traditional calling and emailing the office?

Dang, I asked if this applied to the ABSN applicants but it doesn't. It's only regarding the freshman admissions. Maybe the nursing dept is doing something similar though....who knows??

I'm so sorry to hear that. Stay positive, you'll get in eventually. I haven't heard yet, but am also hoping for 2 year if I don't get into this one.

I'm sad to hear the news ... :crying2: ... especially since you and I were the first ones that got this thread going ...

As much as I know how difficult it may be to come to terms with it, don't ever give up. Keep on trying. You're allowed your moment, but don't stay there too long. Start working on a stronger application, do whatever you can to make yourself a stronger candidate. If you look back at your application (essay, recommendations, grades) you are bound to see places where you can come back stronger. This is what I did, and I was able to see my shortcomings the first time I applied. If Stony Brook is where you want to be, don't give up! I didn't :) ... and some people said that SBU gives special consideration for re-applicants, that's great of them!

You still have hope though! I'll be praying that the 2-year program brings you better news, here's *wine hoping!

In the meantime, stay positive  ...

didnt get in either...sighhhh...gotta look for other programs...good luck to all those that got in!! wish i coulda been part of your class!

Hi all,

I finally hit the "accept" button on the offer for admission (and closed my eyes while doing it). Do we also have to pay the deposit within the 10 day limit after getting the offer?

I did not get in. What a bummer. Good luck everyone. I am attending Hunter College right now and extending my crossed fingers into April... hopefully get in for their accelerated program this fall.

Aye its hard to stay positive but I'm trying:crying2:

Aww, sorry to hear that for those that didn't get in...that's a bummer. I am STILL waiting :anbd: but I pretty much know by now my chances are slim...doesn't look like they've sent out anymore acceptances.

cas don't give up hope! :) I only got my acceptance last week and they only give 10 days to accept or decline, so it's possible that after 10 days people will be declining.

I feel your pain dr3amygirl but let's hold onto a little hope for the 2 year program. Also I can't remember right now if you applied to other schools but for me this was it. Options always help. Keep your head up, hopefully we'll be hearing some good news soon.

Does anyone know around when they are supposed to be telling us decisions for the 2 year program? I keep calling to see if I can find out but no one is answering.

Well I just called again and finally got through to someone. For anyone wondering about the 2 year they said we would hear something "sometime in April" ugh more waiting

I'm in the same boat as you cas89. I'm still waiting. No changes on SOLAR for me still! Hoping to hear tomorrow since it's the 10 day mark from when people first heard their acceptances.
