ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
When I had my transcripts submitted, my mid-semester grades were not available. According to Solar, all of my application info. has been received. Should I have my current school forward my mid-term grades? I did very well and could use all the help I can get. Anyone have any idea? Thanks!

i have a question for you/anyone who is currently in the program...
as far as the 5th science prereq is concerned...it says chem 2 OR another science, eg. bio/genetics/physics...
i took human biology my freshman year of college..the course was for nonscience major, but it was 3 credits and had both lecture/lab hours.. the course number was BIO 004..I looked at the course description and it pretty much matches SB's BIO 101.. i was planning on use this course for my 5th science requirement, however...when i got my acceptance on solar, it listed the few things that were pending and this was one of them..also one of the other students told me the science course had to be level 100 or higher.. im kind of freaking out now that they might not take this course..i could always take another one in the summer, the community college near me has a summer session from may 23-june 23, but apparently SB wants the official transcripts in by june 15....
can you let me know if anyone in your class was in a similar situation, finishing up pre-reqs the week before the program starts?? i need some reassurance here..i hope they arent too strict with those deadlines or with giving credit for sci classes..
thanks so much, any input you have would be greatly appreciated!!!
Hi misStaken,
Firstly, congrats on your acceptance! I am not a current student in the program (I am a 2011 hopeful like many others on this thread), but I hope you don't mind my reading and replying to your question. I looked up some notes I took at information sessions held by SBU's School of Nursing and they said that for the 5th science pre-req, they will accept "any other science." They didn't indicate what level the science class had to be - the impression I got from them was that as long as the course had a science designator in the course code, such as BIO, CHE, etc., it will be accepted as the 5th science pre-req.
Hope that helps a bit. I'm not sure why the 5th science pre-req shows up as pending in your SOLAR account though. Hopefully someone else on this board who is in the program can provide some further advice on this and on your question about finishing up pre-reqs the week before the program starts. Again, hope you don't mind my replying to your post even though it was not directed towards me! Congrats again! :)
paco- I have yet to see any changes on my solar and have pretty much been preparing for the worst! I really think that the people who havent found out yet one way or another though are most likely waitlisted. My quesiton to you is, which may have been answered pagesss back but I cant seem to find it is did you apply to the two year program as well last year? My theory is that if I get wait listed to the accelerated program I would most likely get into the 2 yr because its not as competitive and if I was somewhat of an eligible candidate for the 1 year why wldnt i be for the two year. Again, this is all made up in my head but the only way I kno how to keep myself trying to stay positive! Best of luck to all who have been accepted hopefully I'll be in ur group on fb soon and to those still waiting for me. Have a beer or a bottle of wine while youre at it...strongly recommended therapy tech. I have been putting to good practice this week!
I only applied to the accelerated last year, as I did this year. Sending positive vibes your way! Hang in there! I went through the same motions you're going through, at least you have a backup plan. I had none last year, that is except for going back to my job. That is not an option for me at all this year. It's nursing school or bust!
And if it makes you (or anyone else waiting) feel better: I might very well give up my SBU seat if I get accepted to one of these Florida schools I still have not heard from, provided it makes more economic sense than relocating to Long Island. So that will free up a seat to someone on the waitlist. If I had the power to just give the seat away, oh how I wish I could give it to one of you here! Could you imagine the pandemonium over that?

et: thank you SO much for the info.. thats what i thought, i mean they did say "any other science" .. maybe they just overlooked it on my transcript, it was at the very beginning of the transcript since i took it my first semester of college.. im gonna have to call them either way to sort it out, but you made me feel better about it and relieved some of my stress.. thank you!! and good luck to you.. i really hope you get in!! keep us posted :)

For some reason I think that in order for college course to transfer in general they have to be at least 100 level. I'm not absolutely positive but I had this issue in the past at another school and that is what I was told for that school.

Hi again misStaken!
I'm so glad that my reply helped to reassure you a bit! Yes, definitely try to call them...if you have trouble getting a hold of someone, I would be happy to stop by the School and ask since I pass by almost every day after classes/volunteering! Let me know. The staff assistant there is super nice and she knows her stuff, especially when it comes to all the pre-reqs. I hope the info I gave you is correct...I went to a handful of the info sessions and there were many, many questions about pre-reqs and what courses are acceptable. Overall, aside from the four other science pre-reqs that are set in stone, they seem pretty flexible about pre-reqs and they mainly look at the course designator in the course code to determine if the class is acceptable. Yeah maybe they did just overlook your bio course on your transcript...during the sessions, they stressed the fact that pre-reqs don't "expire," so it shouldn't matter that you took the course during your freshman year. I really hope that it was just an oversight like you said!
And thanks so much for the well-wishes...I really hope I get in too! I am still anxiously waiting any changes on SOLAR...am trying my best to be patient :)
Congrats again! Hope you are having a great weekend and finding some time to celebrate! :)
Hey guys!! congratulations it is very motivating for me when i read about everyone that made it in. It is amazing !! i am a lurker and i have felt the intensity of this thread since day 1. I am a 2012 hopeful (woohoo...Woohoo!) and i would really appreciate it if you guys can welcome me into your thread. i do not doubt for one second that all of you have worked extremely hard and probably shed a few tears. i want to experience all of those emotions :heartbeat..... i am hoping ( i am not sure if hoping is a positive word to use... its like wishing) that i can stand out in my application for next year. it worries me that i do not come from a State university i come from a cuny. i just think to myself " in one year from now is there any thing i would tell me right now to improve my chances" i look forward to hear what you guys have to say if you were the future me. I don't want to make any mistakes and i already committed one so i would deeply appreciate any advice. once again a big "yaaayy" for all of you that made it to stony brook.

Good Morning Cookie91,
I was reading through these threads and I found this post. First off welcome to the thread. I am amazed with your enthusiastic attitude. You have nothing to worry about, you sound like you really know what you're doing and are on the right track. If you keep up that confident/strong mentallity through out your journey of a nursing career I have no doubt on my mind that you will make it. I can tell you from experience that you are ahead of the game just because of that striving energy you possess. Keep up the good work, and never give up. Stay ahead of the curve.
With kind regards,
Dr. Leblanc

Hey Dawn,
Were you in ****** online Social Psychology class last semester? Your name is so familiar, and I seem to recall seeing it on my weekly postings to that class. Congratulations on getting accepted to this program, I'm still waiting to hear.
