Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

wow...everyone on this thread is SO inspirational...shows me that you will all one day be FANTASTIC nurses!!!

for all of us still waiting, POSITIVE THINKING!!!!!!:lol2:

i just joined the facebook group too :-)

New question...does anybody know if we follow the same calendar as everybody else when it comes to winter break?

Hey Diva! You pretty much have all of January "off" ... You have classes on Wednesday (1-3pm for Pharm) & Friday (10am-3pm for Patho/Pharm). People went away every weekend, but you should really be studying for Pharm =P

Specializes in Surgical Step-down, ED, SICU.

For those still waiting, don't lose hope! Seeing as though those who found out have 10 days to reply, there are bound to be more and more decisions coming out. My friend who is currently in the program told me one of the people didn't get in until like a week prior to classes beginning so stay positive!

Hello Everyone!

I also applied for the Accelerated Program. Congrats to all who found out that they were accepted.

I am still waiting to see any changes on my Solar....so nervous right now, but I'm trying to think positive like everyone else who have not heard yet!

Hi everyone,

I'm also one of the people waiting to see something change on my SOLAR page. I'm trying not to get discouraged, but it's hard. However, even if I don't get into the accelerated program, I still hold out hope that I will be accepted into the two-year program. The two-year program may work out better for me in the long run anyway, because if I had to take a year off work, I would not only have to take out student loans to pay for school but ALSO take out loans to pay my bills for a year!!

Anyway, I hope that everything works out for the best for everyone here! We will all be wonderful nurses one day, it's just that some people will be taking different paths than others!

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

Exactly! SBU may call people from the waitlist to join the class literally days before the first day. I for one could not have done that in 2010. How the heck was I supposed to drop everything in FL and get up to Long Island in a matter of hours? :D So in essence, I had lost hope for myself by the beginning of June. But if you're in Suffolk, hang onto hope until the end! And look to me as inspiration: if you don't get in this year, try again! NEVER. GIVE. UP!

For anyone curious to read how it all transpired last year, read the thread I started back then:

Thanks so much...I've been trying to figure out an alternate time for my family to visit. They were scheduled for this July so I figured if we had off in January I could reschedule with them for then, but I guess we still have classes...just a limited schedule. Does that sound right? I originally thought we might be completely off from Christmas until the latter part of January, but I wasn't sure. I'm grateful for the info...thank you.

Specializes in ICU.

I was tired of waiting for the new tabs on solar, decided to call the school today and all that was said was " there're still working on it." whether it's acceptance or decline, i just really want to know already :(

Does anyone know if most of our classes are on west campus or HSC?

Specializes in Peds.

To SPK0001: HSC would make more sense right? lol

ughh... another day without any news... i've been checking solar since this morning till 5pm when the offices close but still no luck... and here comes the weekend... so i'll check again on monday i guess?

I remember seeing someone's post about giving their decisions in 10 days and there are couple rounds of acceptance? so im guessing those of us who don't have anything will have to wait till the... 24th or 25th? (since the first acceptance seen here was on 14th or 15th...)

i dunno... i hope im makig sense here... cuz im kinda out of my mind :icon_roll

paco- I have yet to see any changes on my solar and have pretty much been preparing for the worst! I really think that the people who havent found out yet one way or another though are most likely waitlisted. My quesiton to you is, which may have been answered pagesss back but I cant seem to find it is did you apply to the two year program as well last year? My theory is that if I get wait listed to the accelerated program I would most likely get into the 2 yr because its not as competitive and if I was somewhat of an eligible candidate for the 1 year why wldnt i be for the two year. Again, this is all made up in my head but the only way I kno how to keep myself trying to stay positive! Best of luck to all who have been accepted hopefully I'll be in ur group on fb soon and to those still waiting for me. Have a beer or a bottle of wine while youre at it...strongly recommended therapy tech. I have been putting to good practice this week!
