Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

Hmm... when I clicked on new student preferences, I got this message: "Our records indicate that you have not been admitted to the HSC or WEST campus for the current application terms, hence this application does not apply to you, please exit out of this link." However, I accepted the offer into the ABSN program on 2/14, so I wonder why it says this. All I am able to do is pay the $200 housing fee. Is anyone else having this problem?

I also got the same message when clicking on new student preferences, and i also accepted the offer on feb 14. . i think the system is just doing its own thing with updating lol. . the only thing available for me to pay is also the $200 housing fee, and I am not planning on housing. I would give it a week or two to figure itself out!

If I recall correctly, last year's class started classes on June 28 which was a Monday, this year that Monday is June 27 so I assume that is the same date? (my "the class is filled and you're no longer waitlisted" letter was dated July 1, so this makes sense). I also think there is an orientation some days prior to that. I guess a current student can correct me on these details if I am mistaken.

BTW, thanks for reposting that info from another thread! I had seen this before but finding it again would take me a while :D

I am having the same issues. Not going to worry about it for now. I am sure they will ask for the deposit eventually :D ... and the deposit is pretty cheap in comparison to the $300-$500 the private schools wanted .

Thanks Paco. The school returned my call today form yesterday and said that although no dates are set, it looks like the end of June just as you said.

So you were waitlisted last year? Congrats on your acceptance! That's terrific!

You're welcome as far as the thread reposting! I just stumbled upon it and thought it might be of help.

New question...does anybody know if we follow the same calendar as everybody else when it comes to winter break?

Hey...Did anyone figure out there housing situation yet for SBU? I would prefer to live with other people in the program. Is anyone preferring to live on campus or close to it?

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I hear on-campus living is pricey, even for a state school. I am waiting on these other FL schools to respond with their decisions before I decide where I am ultimately going and how I am going to live. I should know for sure by mid-March so no plans on living arrangements yet (I just heard from UNF today, and they granted me an interview ... so yay!).

i just rechecked the solar site, and was able to pay the tuition deposit of $150. . check it out, maybe everyone is up to date now!

I feel the same way.. I live in Western Nassau county but I'm def not commuting.. I'd wanna rent a house preferably with 3-4 people in the program.. I know some of the students currently in the program are doing that and said it worked out well.. I've been looking on facebook and they are some nice houses to rent and the prices arent too bad, usually around 600 per bedroom..

By facebook I meant craigslist lol.. I'd prefer to live off campus but close to it.. I've lived in a dorm before and its just not my cup of tea..Plus I think renting off campus with a few other people comes out to be cheaper than living on campus in a single..

I just paid the deposit but I didnt fill out the student preferences because I dont know what I am doing about my housing situation. Did anyone get around to creating a facebook page?

To the current students: Is the deposit due when you accept the admission offer or can that be paid later? How much is the deposit? I read somewhere it was $150 but I am not sure.

hey paco, the tuition deposit is $150 and the housing deposit is $200. . i believe you have a few weeks to pay it. . im assuming that it wont be due until all decision letters are mailed out to people! congrats on getting in!

To create a facebook group, you need to invite members. I tried to do it but dont know any of your real names so it wouldnt let me create the group without any members lol any ideas?

hmmmm. is it possible to initially create a group with like 2 members and then give everyone the name of the group so they can request to join?
