ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
I officially hit the button on SOLAR, message that followed:
"We are delighted that you have accepted our offer of admission to the Nursing Accelerated One Year, Bachelor of Science program. We look forward to welcoming you for the Summer 2011 term. Please contact the Office of Student Services should you need further assistance."
To think I waited 17 months for that moment ...
I am however still waiting for those 2 FL ABSN programs to respond, so I'm still not 100% sure if Stony Brook will be it. But it's nice to know that I have a realistic program I can attend in my plans!
From what I hear, these FL programs seem even more competitive than Stony Brook. In fact, one of these schools just started sending letters for interviews (I have not received a letter yet) and the average GPA of those offered interviews is 3.77 ... ... Thank goodness they only look @ the prereq GPA!
xtine: i'd love to know how you feel the workload is.. i've always had a job while i was taking college classes, and i know that this program is obviously a lot more intense and a lot more work, im curious as to how you have found the program to be.. any input would be helpful.. also if you're living off campus, which i plan to do, how did you go about finding a house/apartment/roommates? thanks! good luck to everyone still waiting!!
Hey misStaken,
The workload is def intense. But, I keep telling myself this is what I signed up for. They walk us through it though... they say they "hold our hands" in the summer time w/ "simulation labs" & only one clinical shift/week, then in the Fall, they give us 2 clinical shifts & ridiculous amounts of paperwork/projects, and in the Spring... well, we're in it now, and there's a test every week until April 15 (we have 5 classes). I'm actually super excited at this very moment b/c we just took a test, and the next one isn't until next Wednesday, so I can "rest" tonight before waking up @ 5am tomorrow =P
I worked full time as well while going to night classes, and as much as I hated it back then, I think I dislike it more now because I really despise studying, studying, and more studying. The worst is Pharm! It really sucks the life out of you, but if you manage your time well, you'll do just dandy. I still have a life... I don't pull all nighters and manage to go to happy hours =) It really depends on the type of person you are & how you handle stress (& find an awesome study buddy). Also, during the month of January, you're only in class 2 days/week, so there's this lazy lull that comes over ppl (myself totally included), so you have all the time in the world to study & party, but for some reason, studying gets put on the back burner... don't let that be you! It took me awhile to get back on the fast track. But seriously, the time in this program flew now that I look back.
I live off campus w/ 2 other ppl from the program, & we found each other here on allnurses, & after I started a FB group, we found a place on Craigslist and finalized everything via FB/email while my awesome roomies did all the leg work here in NY. I was going to find a room by myself, but my situation could not have worked out better. Living w/ ppl from the program def has it's advantages... esp since I was from CA. If you're from NY, you could always go to the first day of classes and make an announcement to see if others want to get a house together (which did happen to a group of ppl in our class).
I'm from Ontario too!!! As for your question, you can definitely write the provincial exam! I don't the CNO is aware of the specifics of your question. As long as you have an "RN" status, you will be able to write their exam. I hope this helps and if you need any more info inbox me! Congrats on getting in....I'm waiting to hear about the 2 year program!
Not necessary correct as I know a few UK nurses with several years experience behind them with a RN and they had to do some courses or assessment before being allowed to sit CRNE. At the end of the day you have to meet CNO requirements and they can only determine something once you have a completed set of transcripts and submit them to CNO for assessment. Things change and that means it may not meet requirements
they must be really busy this year, considering how long it took them to update all the application information on SOLAR in the first place. . i can imagine how many people apply, and call in, and all that lol. . .i was told through an email that all letters will be mailed out at the end of february, but it may be possible to see their decision on solar beforehand. . keep checking, and good luck!
I am going nuts hear I want to hear back ! I'm jealous of all of you that have had the magic tab appear. Mine still only tells me my transcripts have been received.. blah! Stonybrook I have been waiting since October!Maybe I should just call them to see if they have reached a decision?

Still no changes... OH and Annie I love the way you think. You actually brightened up my day with the short (fingers crossed) list and the waiting before telling us something. Thanks!
