ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
i have never in my life had such anxiety and stress...this is crazyyyy! I work for stony brook now and all the ppl in my office are like check your account we wanna know! im like yea...until it says "were sorry to crush your dreams" in a link lol I am so scared to check it at work which is business hours bc if i dont get in I kno I wont be able to help but get upset and I dont want to be unprofessional. This is killllliiiingggg me. I also created that "maybe were the wait list" candidates theory and I dont mind it. If i dont get in I will hold on for dear life to the hope I may get into the 2 year but it seems every day SOLAR taunts me with showing my all my stuffs in...except me!
Hey misStaken,The workload is def intense. But, I keep telling myself this is what I signed up for. They walk us through it though... they say they "hold our hands" in the summer time w/ "simulation labs" & only one clinical shift/week, then in the Fall, they give us 2 clinical shifts & ridiculous amounts of paperwork/projects, and in the Spring... well, we're in it now, and there's a test every week until April 15 (we have 5 classes). I'm actually super excited at this very moment b/c we just took a test, and the next one isn't until next Wednesday, so I can "rest" tonight before waking up @ 5am tomorrow =P
I worked full time as well while going to night classes, and as much as I hated it back then, I think I dislike it more now because I really despise studying, studying, and more studying. The worst is Pharm! It really sucks the life out of you, but if you manage your time well, you'll do just dandy. I still have a life... I don't pull all nighters and manage to go to happy hours =) It really depends on the type of person you are & how you handle stress (& find an awesome study buddy). Also, during the month of January, you're only in class 2 days/week, so there's this lazy lull that comes over ppl (myself totally included), so you have all the time in the world to study & party, but for some reason, studying gets put on the back burner... don't let that be you! It took me awhile to get back on the fast track. But seriously, the time in this program flew now that I look back.
I live off campus w/ 2 other ppl from the program, & we found each other here on allnurses, & after I started a FB group, we found a place on Craigslist and finalized everything via FB/email while my awesome roomies did all the leg work here in NY. I was going to find a room by myself, but my situation could not have worked out better. Living w/ ppl from the program def has it's advantages... esp since I was from CA. If you're from NY, you could always go to the first day of classes and make an announcement to see if others want to get a house together (which did happen to a group of ppl in our class).
Xtine: Thank you SO much for all the info! I'm sure its gonna be a very tough year, but so worth it in the end! I feel like were so lucky to be in the position to earn a Bachelors degree in only 12 months.. thats awesome! Im glad to hear you were still able to have a life, even with the intense workload.. I am gonna be looking for off campus housing as well, and I'd love to find some roommates who are also in the ASBN program.. A facebook group is a great idea..Does anyone on here know how to create one? Im sure I could probably figure it out ..
Thanks again for all the helpful information, and good luck finishing up the program, you're almost there!!
Still no changes... OH and Annie I love the way you think. You actually brightened up my day with the short (fingers crossed) list and the waiting before telling us something. Thanks!
Glad I could help a little! :) Let's hope it is right!!!
I don't know how I am going to keep myself calm at SBUH tomorrow...:uhoh21:

kristen: hang in there!!! trust me, i knowww the level of anxiety/stress of waiting for what seems like forever.. it nearly killed me waiting sooo long to hear their decision..they really tortured us!..just think of it this way, if it was a flat-out NO, you would've been told already.. so you're obviously still in the running! either waitlist or accepted right away, you still have a GREAT chance of getting in! good luckkk!!! i really hope you get in and the stress disappears! *wine have a drink in the meantime and try to relax :)

Reading the post made me feel so much better. I'm trying to stay positive and calm but i can't help it lol.
I was accepted, and I am taking my last prereq now: A&P II. My GPA really isn't too stellar, only like a 3.2. However, I did very well in the other prerequisites, and my grades have been on an upward trend since freshman year. Also, I think I had really great recommendation letters and essay. I'm also a Stony Brook student and have two jobs on campus. On SOLAR, there is no tab asking me to pay a deposit for the program yet, only a $200 one for housing. I can't wait to meet you all. It's going to be a tough year, but we'll all help each other out!

Congratulations! There is a page where you have to enter your preferences regarding housing, meal plans, etc. and it says on there that the deposit is $150. It also said I couldn't submit my preferences without my $150, but it let me submit it anyway.
Does anybody have any idea when our first day of classes are? I have family planning a visit July 4th-14th, but they haven't booked their flight yet and I'm thinking maybe they should come in June. I can't find any info regarding this. Thanks and congrats to all of you that have been accepted and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those of you that haven't heard yet.
Hmm... when I clicked on new student preferences, I got this message: "Our records indicate that you have not been admitted to the HSC or WEST campus for the current application terms, hence this application does not apply to you, please exit out of this link." However, I accepted the offer into the ABSN program on 2/14, so I wonder why it says this. All I am able to do is pay the $200 housing fee. Is anyone else having this problem?
Look what I found that someone else found first. LOL This is actually from last year, but I thought it might be helpful...
Look what I found!

If I recall correctly, last year's class started classes on June 28 which was a Monday, this year that Monday is June 27 so I assume that is the same date? (my "the class is filled and you're no longer waitlisted" letter was dated July 1, so this makes sense). I also think there is an orientation some days prior to that. I guess a current student can correct me on these details if I am mistaken.
BTW, thanks for reposting that info from another thread! I had seen this before but finding it again would take me a while

I am having the same issues. Not going to worry about it for now. I am sure they will ask for the deposit eventually ... and the deposit is pretty cheap in comparison to the $300-$500 the private schools wanted

The tuition deposit showed up today! I'm not sure what I'm going to do about housing, so I don't want to pay that one yet. Maybe some of us can rent a house or an apartment together off campus. I think that could be pretty convenient. We can help each other study :)

MARCH 15
... why am I not surprised? I heard it was supposed to be March 1. Stony Brook delayed, I guess UCF is doing it too. So I will end up finding out from UNF and UCF at the same time it seems.
LMAO ... thanks goofina/foifi ... you have gone schizoid on me ...
