ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
I applied two years ago and got my rejection letter on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas to me. My cousin who also applied, got her waitlist letter a few days before my rejection letter. So we may here sooner. Good luck! :)
Oh great, pandemonium will now ensue on the thread before the end of 2010 ...
I am guessing that there are more applications in the pipeline now than there were in 2008, which might make reviewing them a lengthier process. Last year's decisions did not come through until January, I would think this will be the same again with even more applications than last year.
This here is the thread I participated in last year, read and weep for the play-by-play (this should entertain or grieve you for a while ):

I reread some of my posts on there, I cracked myself up ... oh, and BTW, I noticed on there that I got my letter on Jan 26, but I am out of state so yours may arrive sooner the closer you are to Stony Brook).
HEY!!! That was innocent! What I wanted to say was that I'm really motivated but I feel really frustrated not being able to start a program yet. You can forget my rocket analogy
I know what you meant! But I like to take things like that and run with them ... life is too short to be serious ALL the time!! That may explain why I LOVED leaving the legal profession. I might as well have been working with freaking morticians!!
:anbd:
I know the feeling, AND I love this smiley too!
Waiting and waiting and waiting some more... :hdvwl: How is everyone else doing?
On a side note...if anyone is in the 2 years program can they tell me what their experience has been like. I'm torn between the 1 year and 2 year (money and time). I would just like some insight. Thanks in advance.
Hi Everyone,
I have been reading the threads about this program for a year now. I applied for this coming summer and am anxious to find out. I also was wondering if anyone can give some more insight into the schedule? I saw something in a post from 2009, but I was hoping to get more recent info and more specifics. I know it is hectic and full time- but I am trying to figure out what time in the morning classes usually start- and is it 5 days or 6 days/wk? I saw some info that clinicals could be on weekends?
Is anyone else coming from a totally unrelated background?
Looking forward to 'speaking' with you!

:welcome: anniet828, glad to have another one suffering along with us waiting for admissions to decide our fates
I'm assuming all the stuff from 2009 is pretty recent and still applied to the current and next class. There was a current student that posted on here that gave quite a bit of info, which was much appreciated! Can't recall if he gave specifics on schedule (too lazy to retract and look it up, lol) ... did you search out other Stony Brook threads here on the boards? I know someone must have outlined it all.
OK, I just went back to Stony Brook's site and noticed that Nutrition is one of the classes that one would have to take in the accelerated program. I took this class already as a prereq for other schools, does anyone know if I can transfer that in and thus avoid retaking it @ Stony Brook? That would be sweet :)
I was specifically looking here: http://www.nursing.stonybrook.edu/nursingwprod.nsf/onsite12Month?OpenForm

Hello, Anniet828! Welcome to the thread. I have a liberal arts background... I'm pretty scared because I don't feel like I'm a very competitive applicant... YET! I'm hoping to get into a school on my first round of applications... but if not I'll app again next year. Most of my prereqs will be done by then, I'm tossing up getting EMT or CNA (or both!) certified in the future.
Paco, I'm taking nutrition online as it is a prereq for some other programs I'm applying to... let me know if you hear an answer on that question! I would think/hope that nutrition is a general enough class that it should transfer as long as its from an accredited university.
It's a little annoying that each nursing school has different prereqs... but I guess each nursing program varies in length so the courses they cover are different... sorry I'm just thinking "out loud".

Am I the only one to whom this sounded dirty?
I for one would be 1000% shocked
if anything happened before Jan 10 at the earliest! The holidays are approaching, I know they won't be sitting down to do mass mailings of decisions right now, that's for sure. They are probably planning holiday parties!
I have no idea how they review applications, that MIGHT very well be happening right now as we speak, considering the deadline was over a month ago and that there are sooo many applications in queue. So hang tight! We are posting to kill time, vent, cry, drink wine *wine !!!
