ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
Paco -- I cannot send you any emails because I have to send 15 posts before I can...so in the meantime I'll just keep posting!
Does anyone know if the decisions are based on a rolling status? Meaning the earlier you send your application, the faster they will send out an acceptance letter? Or do they wait until all the applications are in and then decide? Just curious to know what the procedure is.
4 more posts! You should be able to do that in your sleep! As for rolling admissions, no, Stony Brook does not review applications until after the deadline irrespective of when app was received. This is what I was once told. What order they actually review them in is anyone's guess. I would have to think they are all reviewed and rank-ordered in some way as far as GPA, recommendations and essay?
Sorry Cas...I was being sarcastic. No it is not a pre-req but it is a co-req with my chemistry class. I'm not doing bad, it's just a pain in the butt!!! It has been 12 years since I last took Calculus (Paco should understand this! LOL). Furthermore, I'm taking it at Stony Brook, and if you haven't heard, their science and math classes are very challenging. I think it's much like a weeding out process for those who think they can handle pre-med lol.
... Gurl, you wrong ... the engagement's ovah!
But anyway!! Calculus as a co-req to chemistry?? Ack! I don't see the need.
Hey guys! I just learned this in gen psyc.. when you purposely try not to think about something - it won't work. This is called the "rebound effect", you'll actually end up thinking about it more! (I mention this as I try not to uselessly check SOLAR )
I'm gearing up to apply to some more schools, there are some more deadlines approaching in December and February.
Y'all should try something I did last year that kinda worked: print out the email with your Stony Brook ID on it, seal in an envelope, mail it to a friend far away that you know won't give it to you until January. Then permanently delete the email from your email account. That way you won't be motivated to check your account without going through hassle.
This will only work of course if you have not yet memorized your ID (which I had not at the time) and/or you are not already a Stony Brook student. I know my ID by heart now though but the good thing is that I have not checked since Nov 9 ... and I know that because the printout I have that shows everything received is dated that.
Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum...I actually just discovered it and wish I would have known about it sooner. I have applied for the ABSN for 2011 and I am officially playing the waiting game. I am soooooooo stressed, I have no patients! I will be keeping my fingers crossed for everyone and I hope yall do the same for me. We all have to stay confident. Oh quick question...I was thinking of applying to the 2 year program also. Does anyone know if you have to re-submit your transcripts and letters of rec or will they just use the ones you already sent. Thanks Guys!
:)

Welcome! :) Try to relax it's out of your hands now. All of us on here are just waiting and trying to distract ourselves till January when we should start hearing something. I am also applying to the 2 year program and unfortunately you do have to resubmit transcripts, letters of recommendations, and application fees.

I did not apply to the 2-year program, but I do understand you can submit the same essay as for the accelerated, that should save you some time.
Welcome to our little world, nitabita!

Really they don't??? I'm so thankful for that!!! I have to submit something else, but am having trouble writing it...this is why I needed to ask you something privately. :) And yes I am sure that they rank the apps according to gpa and possibly by how interesting the essay component is.
As for calculus...I know I don't see the need either, but that's how it goes over here....it's ok, cause I'm doing ok in it...not my favorite subject, but it's gotta be done!!!:)

That's really strange, I've never heard of calculus being a co-req for chem...the only thing I thought it was needed for was physics. And yeah I bet stonybrook is hard, I took mine at binghamton and it was filled with engineering students lol fun stuff.
