ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
4 more posts! You should be able to do that in your sleep! As for rolling admissions, no, Stony Brook does not review applications until after the deadline irrespective of when app was received. This is what I was once told. What order they actually review them in is anyone's guess. I would have to think they are all reviewed and rank-ordered in some way as far as GPA, recommendations and essay?
Last post!!! LOL!!! did you apply to any other schools in NY? I was really interested in NYUs nursing program, but nearly had a mild stroke when I saw how much it cost PER SEMESTER!!! Straight robbery!!! Any suggestions for me? I was looking into the 2 year program....but if this Stony Brook program doesn't work out for me, I might just do an associate's degree then try again? But that seems like such a long stretch. I feel like i'm running out of options....no wait...maybe it's my nerves!!! Definitely should not drink double shot starbucks frapps....they always get me thinking like this!! LOL:D
Yes all first-year science classes have calculus as co-requisites. Stony Brook is definitely challenging, but I am trying to stay afloat! LOL! How was Binghamton's calc? I would assume that SUNY schools generally have the same curriculum. You had engineering students and I have all pre-med students in my class...hmmmm is Binghampton a specialty school for engineers??
Calc 1 wasn't too bad at bing but calc 2 was terrible...that's where I had most engineering students but I guess there were pre-med as well. We aren't a specialty school for engineering there are just a lot of them, I guess our engineering program is pretty good.

Actually, I did not apply to any others in NY, they are all way too expensive ... you're right, NYU is outrageous, and so is Columbia, which in fact if money was no issue I would hands down attend. That is the school where I would like to do my grad work, but I figured I save some money by earning my BSN in the best and least expensive school as possible. I would have also applied to Binghamton's program had I not been deterred by the chemistry notation in their prereqs that it include biochem, inorganic and organic. My chemistry was called inorganic chem, so I was never sure if that was going to be an adequate prereq. I should have just called and found out. Oh well. Also would have applied to SUNY Downstate but I hear they give preference to NY residents so I was not going to waste my time with that one. Besides, I have heard not so good things about their program too.
As far as ADN programs go, I intend to apply to Phillips-Beth Israel and Cochran, in Manhattan and Yonkers, respectively. Their deadlines are fairly far into the late winter (March or April), I should be hearing from at least some of the BSN programs before then which will be the deciding factor to apply to ADNs.
Almost done with my 2 year app. Just need my recommenders to get their letters in... Between the 1 year and 2 year somethings gotta happen. I was looking at some of the other NY programs and the are expensive! I am looking for schoarship money now. Hope everyones day is great! It's almost Thanksgiving and I am ready to eat!!!! :cookies::anpom:
nitabita- That's the same logic im using, between both programs something has to happen...I hope. I need a 3rd recommendation for my 2 year app. because the person who did it for my application for the 1 year messed it up. Thankfully they also didnt pay attention and only uploaded the recommendation to one of my applications instead of both. I think i'm almost over it now, there's nothing I can do but I'll make sure I get a better one before I send in my 2 year. Anyway sorry that was longer than I intended, guess I needed to vent!
Do you live in NY?
ps im sooo ready to eat :hrnsmlys:
Hi everyone! I am a member of the Stony Brook Accelerated Class of 2011. I was obsessed with reading these posts when I applied last year. I was thankful when a member of the class of 2010 provided info on the program...So, If you have any questions regarding the program please let me know!!!
SBUSN- It's so nice of you to remember how nerve wracking it is and stop back if anyone has questions!! As many of us here I am soooo nervous. I refusee to check SOLAR because I know once I start I wont be able to start. Do you remember when you found out? That would take a lot of stress off the dragging days til letters are sent if I had some kind've time frame. Also I am applying to both programs do you know people in the 2 year? If I get into the accelerated I really want to push myself to do it but I am scared it will be too much. I grew up in Stony Brook so luckily I wont need to work as I can live at home which I heard is a big struggle for most students being unable to work, but is it really that intense? Do you feel like you have any time for anything at all I want to enjoy school and the program seems to offer a lot but I just am so taken back by the amount of people that say you pretty much lose yourself in school work and it may sound childish but I dont want to never have time to see my family or friends as if I have disappeared off the earth for 12 months!
Any advice/insight?

... but i was waitlisted for your class and you took my seat, i'm mad at'chu!!
just kidding ... lmao ... actually, you could have been my classmate ... i'm curious though, is it because the holiday is approaching that you have some time to post, or are you guys always that busy!? i would like to know about your clinicals. are they all @ sbuh? i assume the psych rotation is elsewhere.
i for one would like to know how the housing situation is @ sb. do most people live off campus or can one live on campus (though i shudder to think that i would be housed with 18 year old freshmen -- ooh been there, done that, they might nickname me grandpa, and i would not take that lightly, lol!! )
seriously, any info you can provide for us awaiting word on applications would be great, thanks!!
