Stony Brook School of Nursing has recently opened the undergraduate application portal for the 2021 school year. I was part of an allnurses thread for their Basic BSN program last year, and the information and support from other applicants was amazing; so I jumped on creating a thread for this cycle as soon as applications became available.
Any questions or even just casual discussion about the program is more than welcome! Can’t wait to talk to all of you. ?

Yeah I knew that the LORs would be the part that took the most time so I had already asked my recommenders and sent them my resume to help them write one for me mid-July, so they could have it ready in August! Since 2/3 of my recommenders were professors, it ended up being a good thing they wrote it so early because it would’ve caused a delay since they’re so busy this semester!

probably online, plus I don't wanna go all the way to Stony Brook just for an interview that doesn't guarantee an admission ?
Hey I have some prereq questions. For the English comp prereq I took 3 English classes in undergrad, but none were titled specifically as English comp. (e.g. science fiction, fiction, from one art into another), but we had in-class discussions, read texts, and had to write essays. Do you guys think I can just choose whichever one?
Also, for the stat requirement I took Biostats and statistics and I did slightly better in Biostats. They were both 4 credits. Do you guys think it matters which one I put?
I did email the Pamela lady since her number wasn’t taking calls, but I haven’t gotten a response yet.
Thanks

I would email or call the Health Sciences Office and ask. I know each program is specific on what courses they accept. Binghamton didn’t accept my Creative Writing class where we had discussions and essays/writing assignments due every week for their Composition requirement. I’m not sure how specific Stony Brook is but I would definitely contact them before you submit anything!

I haven't had any luck doing this when I tried transferring credits to other schools. You'll definitely need to speak to someone from SBU about this. Maybe try reaching out to the office of student affairs? I emailed a woman named Karen during the Summer about some concerns I had taking A&P 2 online (due to covid). She was very helpful!

I would definitely not just choose a random class and list it without consulting someone at the office about transfer course equivalences, because this would seriously hurt you. If they see that you listed classes that did not fill the requirements, they might not consider you. From past years and from what I heard about Stony Brook, their ABSN program gets A LOT of applications, so they can afford to let applications go if they don’t meet their standards. Like on the website it says you need a minimum GPA of 2.8 but they don’t even look at applicants with anything below a 3.0.
Thanks everyone. I'll heed your advice. I don't even think my alma mater had a course titled English composition. Most of those courses are upper level and were 3-4 credits so I would hope that at least one of them would fulfill the requirement, but I guess I'll see. Hopefully, I can talk to someone on the phone today. Thanks again.
