Stony Brook School of Nursing has recently opened the undergraduate application portal for the 2021 school year. I was part of an allnurses thread for their Basic BSN program last year, and the information and support from other applicants was amazing; so I jumped on creating a thread for this cycle as soon as applications became available.
Any questions or even just casual discussion about the program is more than welcome! Can’t wait to talk to all of you. ?

I feel like they get so many eligible applicants that they honestly don’t care if people end up declining their offer because SBU has other qualified students to fill the spot.
Ouch! I wish they made decisions earlier on to avoid this. Like, I don't want want to reject other schools because I'm waiting to hear back from SBU, you know? And then potentially not get in and then I'm going nowhere. Ahhh

I’m nervous I’m gonna accept a seat at another school and get an acceptance to SBU at the beginning of the Spring semester in a different school. The only thing I’m telling myself is obviously we’ll know we won’t even be considered if we never get invited to an interview.
Thats a good point! At least you know if SBU didn't call you back for an interview, you may have some luck getting in elsewhere.

Yeah I wish they released answers earlier too! Hopefully since interviews are most likely going to be virtual because of covid, they’ll be able to get done with interviews more quickly since they don’t have to worry about being there in person, and admissions decisions will be released faster too!
Hey guys, I am also applying!
I was just about to submit my application but I saw you guys talking about it being required that we have to have science prerequisites taken in person? I hope that is not the case. I am 23 and have been working fulltime 4 (12 hour shifts) since I was 18 years old as a patient care technician at a level one trauma center, while maintaining a full time school schedule with a 3.57. Hopefully they would not just toss my application simply because I took a few courses online.....): Does someone know this to be 100% true or is it just hearsay?

It depends on when you took it. Did you take the science courses (Chem, A&P, Microbio) before Spring 2020 online?

Yeah I heard they weed out a lot of applicants even before the interview, like low GPAs. So, compared to the number of people that applied, only a few even get invited for an interview.
Do you mean the second round? from what I was told, they interview majority of people the first round

I had to take A&P 1 and 2 and Chemistry online. Im also taking Microbiology right now online. Obviously I had no choice because of COVID. I spoke with admissions and they said that will accept online courses taken in Summer 2020 and fall 2020

I think they might've mentioned something about online courses in their online information session. It says something along the lines of "Online classes are accepted from accredited universities with the exception of Microbiology and AP 1&2 labs" But, then the COVID kind of messed some stuff and honestly the pandemic happened during the semester I took AP 2 and I'm going ahead and still putting it down, even though we moved to online in the middle. I mean we had no control over the pandemic. I guess it's best to call them.

well when I emailed Pamela she told me " The applications are reviewed and after the deadline we choose a large pool of candidates to interview. "
I hope that means majority ? now I am nervous because of my GPA
