Stony Brook ABSN Class of 2022

Stony Brook School of Nursing has recently opened the undergraduate application portal for the 2021 school year. I was part of an allnurses thread for their Basic BSN program last year, and the information and support from other applicants was amazing; so I jumped on creating a thread for this cycle as soon as applications became available.

Any questions or even just casual discussion about the program is more than welcome! Can’t wait to talk to all of you. ?

@mj452 Yes everything is randomized... you won't know your schedule until a few days before each semester. so you can't plan anything in advance, you have to go by their schedule, so you'll be lucky to have week end off, or you might not. In Summer, I didn't have anything on Saturdays and Sunday but other groups, had clinicals on week end, some had clinical week days and week end, so you can never know. We never had class on week end though, just clinicals (not for everyone like I said) 

In Fall, I had clinicals on weekend and this final semester also I have clinicals on saturdays, so there is no way to know in advance. You cannot request special days either because it's so complicated...LOL.

if you have a wedding to go, I would say to wait and talk to your clinical instructor to see if you can make it up, not always possible, then you can go to the wedding otherwise you'll have to get late to that wedding LOL... clinicals are usually 12 hours, so 6am to 6pm or 7am to 7pm

Hi everyone! When was your first day of classes last Summer? Do classes start the first or second week of June?

Hello. Classes were started in the second week of June which was 6/7/21. The first week was orientation week in Blackboard. FYI, last year, the school of nursing released the Summer schedule in mid-April.

Hi! I’m starting the next cohort, wondering if anyone had any trouble with piercings. I have 4 piercings in each ear and I’m wondering if I’ll have to take them out for this program, I know some schools don’t allow any piercings or visible tattoos

In the previous year, how long did it take to hear back regarding admission off of the alternate list?

I personally didn't hear back until mid-April. Which gave me only about a month and a week to join the group me and get up to speed with everything like health forms, housing, etc.

Thank you so much for your response! From what I have heard the waitlist Is kept small, do you know if the majority of waitlisted people got accepted?

For anyone in the program right now when do we get information about the health forms we need? They haven't told us much and I go to school out of state so I need to plan ahead to get everything to them on time. Is orientation in April or is it days before the program starts?
