stethoscope frusteration!! help!

Published

I will be starting the nursing program this fall and torn on which stethoscope to get. Im torn between Littmann Classic II S.E and Littmann Classic III. Any recommendations/likes/dislikes anything to help me choose. Im new to all of this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

I bought the Cardiology III in my first semester after my original stethoscope was very hard of hearing. I have not looked back since.

For students I recommend an affordable, quality stethoscope under $50, such as the Littmann Lightweight SE or the MaxiScope (made by UltrsScope). There's always time to upgrade to a pricier stethoscope later in your career when you actually know what type of nursing you'll end up doing.

High-priced stethoscopes often 'grow legs' and 'walk away' during the student years when you are surrounded by broke schoolmates who may not have the most active consciences. Thus, when students are seeking suggestions on stethoscopes, I suggest reasonably priced ones with a solid blend of quality and durability.

Again, the high-priced stethoscope can always be purchased later in one's career.

Maxiscopes walk too. Get a clip for it so that it's always with you and potential"borrowers" might think twice about reaching below your waist. I loved my

maxiscopes. Found it better than a Littmann.

Thanks for the help folks! I went with the Littmann Classic III and had it engraved. I figured why not, it was one a few bucks more than then classic II s.e

I'm hearing disabled, have the Thinklabs One, LOVE it, and because it stays in my pocket, it can't grow legs.

So, pricey is best in your opinion? 😉

Either littmann is fine, I would personally go for least inexpensive.

Thanks for the input, I went with the Littmann Classic III :)

Me too! I ordered it on Amazon, I'm excited to receive it.

Great choice! You'll be very happy with it; that's the one I have by the way.

Can we also talk stethoscopes mechanics I guess,-I know nothing about stethoscopes. I have the opportunity to save some cash-money and use a hand-me down. If I recall it is a 20 year old or so Littmann Cardiology II, however it has not been used and has been sitting on a shelf for like 10+ years. Would anyone know if this is still good so to use? I appreciate any and all help!

I think after a certain amount of time the tubing starts to crack/deteriorate and needs to be replaced.

Contact Litmann to see if they will replace the tubing and service it or at least get a quote.

Mine had a 7 year warranty and they were really helpful when the tube cracked

I use a Littman select and can hear just fine. I use it on the ambulance all the time and have no problems what so ever.
