Oh, I almost went over to the dark side a few years ago because I hated what I saw when I was working in LTC and wanted to make things better, but the job didn't pay enough to make it worth all the travel and the crazy schedules. Sorry. :chuckle
I think I would enjoy it and be good at it but not worth the money. Poor job if you have school age kids. How can you travel overnight?
the DON of a facility was in the middle of a survey when the leader of the survey made her a offer of a job..told her she could they would meet her current salary and she could build up credit so that when she retired she would have state benefits in addition to what ever else she had
she walked in administor office and gave two wks notice, after having been there for 15 years...

WOW!
I like the comment about going over to the dark side .... I was in long term care for about 12 years as a nursing home administrator in Florida .... lots of State Surveyor jobs there .... had an offer to go and looked into a job very seriously, but the pay was pathetic .... I asked the program administrator ...."how do you recruit nurses qualified to do this job when they pay so poorly" she rolled her eyes and said "that is why the quality of our staff is not the best." I could not believe she told me that ... but she was right. Most of the surveyors I dealt with were not the sharpest knife in the draw if you know what I mean!

Just wondering...Are there any state surveyors out there?
