  1. It's wise to have because you never know when your hospital will turn on you. I've seen long term employees just spit out in a heartbeat. No loyalty anymore. Also, society is more sue happy than twenty or thirty years ago. Poor souls who we would like to rest in peace-given their horrible conditions--have family members that want to sue because Mom couldn't be saved in the ER.
  2. Yes, I am not happy about health care workers without names tags now that I've matured a bit. I figure if they know everything about me including my address, I should at least know there name. I like this doctor and I plan to have a discussion about that the next time I see him. I am not ready to drop him, he is good at so many things, can listen to suggestions without get his ego in a fury like some. Thanks for all your replys. Just want to add that three years ago, he did breast, pelvic and rectal exam on my visit so I was surprised when I was asked if I was just there for the pap.
  3. now I'm getting confused. What test is done for HPV. I didn't realize it was a separate test from the pap
  4. I had a pap -it had been three years since my last one--and could anyone tell me if this now the norm in exams. When I was rooming in, the assistant (no name tag) asked if I was here for a pap AND breast exam as well. Only a pap was done. Are you supposed to request both be done? I thought both pap and breast exams were always done together. This family practice MD is really a good doctor, very smart, caring, has delivered babies in the past. I have been pleased with him in everything but is something new or not. Does this have something to do with the time constraints of patient care and needs to be requested separately? They were behind schedule and seemed rushed that day.
  5. awesome, was going to respond but you passed. Oh, well for someone else. Four of us from school went to a movie the night before. Went to bed at a decent hour. We all passed. The ones who stayed home to study were nervous wrecks.
  6. I wouldn't let a nurse recruiter determine your future. You know who you really are inside not her. Job shadowing is a great idea. Who has the time to mess around doing things you really don't want to do.
  7. Whoops, sorry, I didn't make that clear. I think it should be a 20 month program like the one you went to. Typing too fast. It does seem strange that nurses are called on to make so many more critical decisions than an ultrasound tech would in the course of the day, yet our educational standards are less than theirs.
  8. I met an ultrasound student the other day. Requirements for her program are a four year degree now. I never thought this before, but I think entry level for RNs should be a bachelor's degree and LPN should go at least twenty months as Marie said. The bar is being raised everywhere.
  9. Regarding having to spit out a script: My opinion is if you want a parrot, hire one.
  10. You may have an undiagnosed medical problem which is causing a lot of anxiety. You may need a different area of nursing. You may need another career. I know a nurse who worked six months, then went to school for an accounting degree. She's had a great career as a CPA and is very happy. I know a doctor with a law degree who never worked as a lawyer. She decided it wasn't for her but she still hangs the certificate in her office. I wish you well in your search for contentment.
  11. Our admits counted as two visits. This place is taking advantage of you. Unrealistic work day.
  12. What I don't understand about Carla is that why if every day you go to work and your nursing notes are deleted, didn't she report this to some governing board. The nursing home has no business complying with record tampering even if the husband wanted it. The nursing home is at fault for permitting this. I would not let my notes get deleted time and time again without putting up a stink. Maybe she needed a job real bad who knows. We need to pray for Michael to have a real change of heart instead of flame him and by flaming him we are sending more negative energy out. Terri's parents need prayers too to stop the animosity. And I pray for Terri that God's will be done for her, not her parents, the courts, the press, husband.......
  13. Think of the sheer monotony of her days. One day identical to the next. Never tasting food. Pleasure seeking is natural. What pleasure does she have? What does she have to look forward to---oral care? Being turned and positioned. Staring at mom for another decade. How natural is that for a life. Would you want to grow old that way? Real living is enjoying new signs of spring outside, experiencing life, having coffee at the mall with friends, going for a new haircut. I wouldn't want my dog to live like she does. She has suffered enough. Let her rest in peace. She should be nominated for sainthood having endured hell on earth. I think the clergy that what to "save" her have never worked with those in vegetative states. Let her go to a much better place with dignity.
  14. A OB head nurse gave me this tip once. Spread the labia and lift slightly. By lifting, the meatus presents itself better.
  15. I wonder if they are subverting God's will for her life??? That's no way to live day in --day out, decade after decade....
