I just turned 25 Monday and just registered for classes a couple days ago. As I was talking to my counselor I realized that by the time I finish my associates degree I'll be about 28. So many prereqs I have to take. Im starting out at the lowest level Math that I can't even tall until spring semester. This is just really bothering and stressing my out thinking about it. If I do decide to get my BSN ill be about 30 smh! Anyone else thats a little older starting school feel this way? What do you do to reassure yourself? Im feeling down in the dumps.
I am 43 and have had reasons my whole life not to move forward with an education in nursing (kids, other jobs, busy)....well I'm working on getting started now. I wish I was 25 when I started! I actually don't mind my age, it's a number and whether I start now or not, i'll still be 60 someday so I might as well do something I want to!
Well, I started my nursing school when I was 41, so far I have worked 1.5yrs on a med/surg floor and have worked in Critical Care for just over a year. For me, going back to nursing school at an older age helped as I had extensive life experience to assist me in time management while taking a full course load along with clinicals during the day and working full-time nights. And I wasn't the oldest in my nursing class but I was one of the older ones.
I'm 23 and got into an accelerated program and I'll be 25 when I graduate. I was upset that I didn't figure out I wanted to do nursing straight out of high school like some of my friends did. But honestly, nursing deals with life and death. You're going to see a lot of awful things (as well as great things) but it's definitely not a job to take lightly. I'm not sure I would have been ready to be a nurse at 21/22. That's great for people who are, but I don't think I had the maturity. I think 30 is a great age to start working as a nurse.

I'm 36 with 3 kids. Just graduated with my A.A. in Health Science (pre reqs) this spring, and will begin an ABSN in the fall. I will be 38 when I finish. I am so grateful I didn't go when I was a sprout. I would have made a mess of my GPA and I probably would have dropped out. My life has a path, and everything happens for a reason.
Enjoy your education. Look at it as an experience to savor. You are exactly where you are supposed to be
Oh and I had to start with Arithmetic! But I am glad I took it. Because I didn't learn it when I should have. The beginning is the perfect place to start!
