Starting school at older age! :(

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I just turned 25 Monday and just registered for classes a couple days ago. As I was talking to my counselor I realized that by the time I finish my associates degree I'll be about 28. So many prereqs I have to take. Im starting out at the lowest level Math that I can't even tall until spring semester. This is just really bothering and stressing my out thinking about it. If I do decide to get my BSN ill be about 30 smh! Anyone else thats a little older starting school feel this way? What do you do to reassure yourself? Im feeling down in the dumps.

You are def not too old. Im currently finishing up my pre reqs and will hopefully start nursing school in the fall of 2017. I will attain my Rn at the age of 40 and I will be 43ish when I get my BSN. I will be 47ish when I get my NP! keep truckin' your still young!

I was an LVN for many years. I went back to school at 51 for my prerequisites and entered an RN ADN program at 55, graduating and passed the NCLEX at 57. There were many students in my class over 30 and another student who was just a couple years younger than me. You are still very young, go to school. You have the advantage of being more mature than some of the younger students.

I only had trouble getting my first RN job because I didn't want to commute. I also still had a good job as an LVN in CA so could afford to be picky. I ended up moving to another state where I was planning to move eventually anyway. I was 58 when I got my first RN job. I just changed jobs at 59 and didn't have any trouble getting hired.

I started taking nursing prereqs at age 30. I was an LVN/PN by 34 and earned my RN by 36. You are still young and so am I! [emoji1]

Hi! Don't be bummed. You still have a whole life ahead of you. I started pre-reqs at age 25 and I am now 27 and will be 29 when I graduate next December (2017) with an ASN degree. Then another year or so for the BSN program and so on. It will be ok. The time is going to pass anyway. You can still work for many more years. Take care.

I am 52 and just applying to the Nursing Program. I am a little nervous, but i pray this works out for me. Good luck. Any TEASVI advice ?

Oh wow. When I saw "older age" I was thinking 50+.

I was accepted into my ASN program this May and I turned 24 in the beginning of July. When I compare "old" me to young me, I regret absolutely nothing. I DID go to college straight out of high school. I had a huge scholarship awarded to me, but I blew absolutely everything and essentially failed out. I had no car to get to and from anywhere (and the school was 60 miles out) so I relied heavily on other people, so school just didn't work. I took a few years off to figure out what I actually wanted because clearly it was not my current career path.

I later enrolled into my local CC as a pre nursing major at 22. I went from being on automatic academic probation to having a near 4.0 GPA. My head was finally in the game and I knew exactly what I wanted. I'll start my nursing program next month, I'll graduate when I'm 26, and then I'll begin to research my options to obtaining a BSN. A lot of my classmates are older than me, some of them a lot older (twice my age and could be my mom). Unless you're so old that you can't walk/move like you used to, there is nothing in the world wrong with being a nurse at any age.

I am 48 and starting my pre-reqs. :) I am so excited and so nervous at the same time. I wanted to go when I was in my 20s but ex-husband said "it was a waste of time" ... new hubby has encouraged me to go for my dream, so that is exactly what I am doing. I might be 50 or 51 when I get my degree but I would be that age no matter what.. Age is all about attitude.

I just turned 30 and am now applying for school to start my prereq's. I feel old but I am still young enough to learn and persevere because I have more life experience. I would have been in no shape to go to nursing school even at 25. Take it for what it is and don't sweat the small stuff ;)

I was 33 when I graduated nursing school. The oldest guy in our class was mid 60's. And the youngest was 18 when we started our journey. However, we were all in it together. Age is truly just a number.

I started my career in textiles, but the industry was dying unless I wanted to go to NY or LA. Then I went back to school and got my BS at age 30. I then got my MS in Plant Pathology, another worthless field, at age 33. And now, at age 38, I am going back again to get my ADN. I'll be at least 40 by the time I'm an RN. But as everyone has said, age is just a number. I still feel 18 in my head! :wacky:
