Nursing Students Western Governors

Hi I was wondering are there books we need to buy/rent for any/all of the nursing classes (RN-BSN) as well as Statistics and History?

The overwhelming majority of books are provided as ebooks and are included with your tuition. Read that: FREE

And for the most part, you will probably not find that you need books at all. Most of your research will be through journals and published articles on the internet.

Specializes in Psych, Eating Disorders.

How long did it take for to review and accept your transcripts?

It took about three months and that is with me emailing my councilor several times throughout process.

Once all my transcripts were received by the records office, it took about 48 hours for the transcript evaluator to review my transcripts.

You pay a technology fee of a few hundred dollars at the beginning of the program, which covers the costs of the ebooks and online study materials.

Well...I'm not so sure about that "free" part.

My school also advertises several classes as the course material being "included in the tuition" but in all reality they just add the cost of the book to the tuition for the class, so you're still paying for it. You can find the cost of the course book "included" in the tuition on the financial aid statements and in the bookstore. I think it's a con, actually, because you don't have a choice to opt out and get the book elsewhere.

I think it's inconvenient because I can find the same books online for much cheaper than the campus prices.

There are no required textbooks through . So no, you don't need to get any books elsewhere because there are no books that you need. They PROVIDE e-texts through their online library, but I think I've used the e-texts twice in the 4 years I've been at WGU.

So when Maryjean states that they're free at WGU, they really are free.

Specializes in Outpatient/Clinic, ClinDoc.

The books are included in tuition and whether you need 25 CU to complete or 50 (like I needed), the tuition does not change. So yep, they are "free". If you need a lab kit or two for a/p or micro, that's also included, no extra charge. People who do not need lab kits pay the same as people who do.

I did use books for any classes with tests, but they are pretty useless for the paper writing classes, I agree.

Mirandaaa, I hope that your school is not ...is it? WGU charges tuition based on semester, I think it's 3250 per, + $350 fee for the first semester.

That your school forces you to pay for books seems illegal to me, under anti-trust laws. Oh gosh, don't get me going on the $250+ textbooks or the $95 (pure profit) "rental digital books." (loaded with errors) Textbooks (IMHO) are a scam that puts the big pharma to shame. Student plunder!

And I do agree, not only can you find a book cheaper but you usually can go to a previous edition on places like addall.com or half.com. I just bought a Statistics book for seventy-five cents +$2.95 shipping and it's working out just fine. From what I've seen often the "revised" book (the newest edition) really doesn't have much new stuff at all, they just renumber the pages to force you to buy the new edition. I bought older editions for almost all my ADN books and did just fine.
