Hi adpiRN I do sometimes feel that way. However there are lots I'm grateful for in teaching hospitals. The assignment I'm on currently is a world of difference from what I'm used to. The nurse is expected to be the clerk, housekeeping, lab and everything in between. My first night on was a nightmare. I have a long way to go til the end of my assignment but I'm willing to take some good skills with me when it's over. I find that knowing how to perform a VE is an impt skill for an L&D RN, so I'm glad to learn. But I'm not comfortable triaging patients and having to call their Drs based on my exam. i guess it gets easier with time.

Hey nurses! Traveling to my first non-teaching hospital since being an L&D nurse, and the nurses are expected to perform lady partsl checks. Do any of you have resources I can use to get a jump start on it? TIA
  7. Hi Erin! I actually was just offered a position in L&D myself, with only 2 years of long term care experience. I had one of those panel interviews with the nurse managers of both the L&D unit and the Mother Baby unit, the lactation consultant and the nurse educator. Similar to loveandj I got a lot of scenario questions dealing with co-workers and physician communication. I was asked 1 clinical question on COPD exacerbation presentations. Hope that helps!
  8. You guys are really helping me keep hope up. Thanks... Im hoping I get selected, Im really hanging on by a thread financially, as Im sure most of us on here are, so Im pulling for all of us. And I dont think I said it earlier, but congrats to all those that did receive that initial email! ~Ponchie
  9. if we didnt get an email, does that mean we didnt get it?
  10. lol @stiltarget... Congrats to those of you starting this semester... come in with commitment and dedication and you'll get through it. Starting my second year now and we've lost alot of people , nursing school is tough anywhere you go, so you really have to come in with a mndset to do whatever it takes! Good luck to you all... ~Ponchie
  11. I also completed your survey :)
  12. HI RN Care, sorry I took so long to respond... SVCMC has got me busy lol... You have a great gpa, you should definitely apply, though you do have to keep in mind that there is an entrance exam and interview which are also weighed in with your past educational experience. The program is 2 yrs long, 4 semesters. The school is great, I can only speak for myself, but if you search the forum for this school I'm sure you'll only see good things... Good Luck to those of you still applying :)
  13. Hi Zip, As long as EduKan's transcript is from an accredited college/university I don't see why it wouldn't be taken. From what I know of Edukan it is through an actual school, and your transcript should just say the class u took and the grade, not the method in which u took it. There are people in my class who are taking alllll the prereqs along with the nursing classes and doing quite well. I'm only taking A&P with it, and I'm handling it pretty ok myself. It's all about setting your mind to something and getting it done. Being that you do have some time until Fall 2009, you may want to get some pre reqs in. But do make sure they will take the creds first.
  14. Sorry donster, Thanks! stiltarget, I enjoyed my 1st day, its so much better actually practicing what we're learning on real pts! ur on peds now right?
