Hello,
I have read previous posts on here over the last few months regarding admission to SPC's AS Nursing program. I applied for the fall 2013 semester. Are there any applicants out there who also applied? I am playing the waiting game. Do any previous applicants know how long it takes to hear if you are accepted or not, once the application window closes? Thank you:)
Did anyone get their physical done somewhere other than their family Dr? Our family Dr retired so was wondering about maybe a Walgreens take care clinic unless I see an idea I like better. They dont accept appointments and the cost is 70 dollars if anyone else is also looking for a place..Also I was told the CPR class I am to take is only offered by the American Red Cross, looks like a 5 hour course for health care providers..Is this where everyone else took it? thanks!
Yes, CPR has to be AHA - BLS for healthcare providers. I took mine at HEC.
The physical includes a pelvic and breast exam so make sure Walgreens can do that as well. I went to my primary doctor for my physical and immunizations so it would be covered under my insurance. She did not do my pelvic or breast exam because I have my yearly next month so Ill just have that portion signed off by my GYN.
@JenniferWarner.....I am going to do my at my Dr's but when I was at the health center, the lady there told me that MedExpress actually give huge discounts to SPC students to do their physicals there...I would check them out. As for CPR, I did mine at Babcock Health services on 5th ave and 26 st...it was 45$ and I was out in less than 3 hours...Great teacher too, I had fun in it.
Hey everyone. I have a question. I had my titers done and my Varicella titer came back IGG positive but IGM negative, I had the shots and the chicken pox as a child and had a positive titer done last year when I was pregnant with my son. Do I still need to have the shots? I have left a few messages at the HEC center but have yet to receive a call back. Also, my HEP B came back "not immune" do I need the 3 series or just the booster?
Thanks!
I just found something interesting about our Fundamentals of Nursing book. There is an online resources component that we have access to:
Kozier & Erb's Fundamentals of Nursing | Pearson Health Sciences
If you click the arrow icon (Get Access) under the Textbook Resources for Students section, you will be prompted to create a PearsonEd account (I already had one from an online class I took in the Spring). After you create your account you can register for the online resources for the Fundamentals book. The online resources includes things like animations and videos, online quizzes and practice tests, skills checklists, etc.
This isn't an e-book; the text of the book isn't available. But it seems like a great resource to use to test your understanding of material covered in each chapter.

No you need the series. The booster is only if you have some immunity, the booster "boosts" that immunity. The series actually creates the immunity.
To any ALTERNATE who just got in, make sure you are doing the RIGHT CPR class. It has to be the AHA-BLS course, not the basic one the red cross offers. I can't stress that enough.
Financial aid will be dispursed last week of SEP, hence the due date to pay tuition is in OCT.
you MUST get a ID card before you can sit for the ATI test. If you don't have one, you will have to sit out the test for another time slow. They said that at orientation. The HEC ID will give you a new STUDENT ID, that's the one you will for the entire duration of the nursuing program because it tracks your ATI scores from the STATE when you go apply for the NCLEX boards.
3 more weeks till school starts. Tryin to soak it all in before mayhem begins lol. I finally got my books and skill kit today, and got my polo shirt and pants and shoes yesterday. The only thing I still need to buy is the clinical top but since clinicals dont start for 4-6 weeks after the semester, I am not worried about it.
Dont forget to sign up for the workshops if you haven't already done so. The math workshops are on the 13th and 14TH and the other 2 workshops are also on the 14th so if you have signed up for a ATI test the 14th, you are going to miss a couple of workshops.
Also i signed up for the volunteer thing over at Tampa GEN hosp. They are going to give recommendation letters, which will look good down the line when you apply for jobs in the area. Plus its a great way to market yourself and network with some hiring people over at TAMPA GENERAL if you plan on working there, which I plan on, since they have a top notch cardiovascular specialty program ranked top 10 in the country.
I signed up for the event as soon as I saw it on angel, glad someone else did too!
RNSB , It is a volunteer opportunity (Stroke retreat 8/3 @ TGH). It was posted in the ADN commons board. I believe that she needed all volunteers confirmed by the 29th but it doesn't hurt try. All contact info is on the welcome board/ news board on Angel's ADN commons.

Not yet, my ATI test period is on 8/7 from 1-5pm, so I'm going to go a bit early and get the ID then.
