Hello,
I have read previous posts on here over the last few months regarding admission to SPC's AS Nursing program. I applied for the fall 2013 semester. Are there any applicants out there who also applied? I am playing the waiting game. Do any previous applicants know how long it takes to hear if you are accepted or not, once the application window closes? Thank you:)
Wow ... have not even started yet and I already feel overwhelmed :)
Being form different country I am not familiar with TEAS and frankly I do not know what to expect and how results of this test may affect the admission process? Can I still be eliminated due to low score in this test? Any information will be much appreciated :)
Google TEAS practice questions examples to give you an idea of what to expect. The test is just to let the teachers know where we stand. It will not change your admittance. Don't worry, you will get all the info you need at orientation and you have more than a month before the first day. The only thing you have to complete now is the drug test and background check, as stated in you acceptance letter.
Based on what a counselor told me, yes, only the nights track goes to school through the summer. The people who choose days get the summer off.
SKFord, do you plan on bringing a tablet/laptop to class? I'm using a program called EverNote (still learning it) that lets you create notes and embed audio in them. Essentially you could record your lecture while typing your notes, so the two things will be tied together.
I've heard great things about EverNote but I'm still figuring it out.
Keep in mind, the summer section is going to be VERY CRAMMED. If you get behind on a test and say you get a C, you may end up regreatting it and could end up being dropped from the program if you don't finish the course with a C. Once in the nursing programs, there is no "dropping" a class like you could with other classes if life got in the way, or you didn't like the instructor or did not do good on a test or 2. That's one reason i won't do the evening program.
Second of all, night program (technically day) is from 1-10 or something like that. Doesn't leave you much time to study because you will come home exhausted, sleep in a bit, and not get a chance to study if you have to work or be back in class the next day. At least with the day program, you can get a couple hours of studying in before having to wake up in the am.
Highwaygirl,
If we need one for the SIMchart or Ebooks I will bring one. I have never heard of ever note but it sounds cool. I really like to hand right my notes, though. I try to store info in every memory source available ( muscle, visual, audio) lol.
I plan on doing the day program but it is good to hear others would like the night program so we are all not fighting for the day
I have used EVERNOTE before, it is a little overwhelming at first and a great app to have (android and iphone versions). You can record the sessions or take notes on a tablets and split them into sections and subsections. If you have never used EVERNOTE before, start looking at it. It took me a while to figure out how to properly use it.

-Are recorders very helpful?
-How are the care plans and/or any papers/reports we have to do?
-Is there a microwave in the cafeteria area to warm your own lunch? (kinda silly... don't know why it is on my mind)
-Do we have to pay extra to take the ATI?
-Are the tests essay, multiple choice or a mix?
-Do we get to pick our teachers at orientation or are they selected for us?
-How do they determine who gets days/nights (what if they run out of day slots)?
I just have so many questions!!
* I'm not in the program yet but I do record lectures for studying. 75 % of the time I find it helpful, problem is if you have a teacher who gets off topic and easily distracted. In those cases I don't bother. It helped me a lot with micro.
* I think there will be a lot of care plans. Care plans are just part of nursing school, we will all be sick of them. Some instructors are pickier than others on care plan grading.
* There is a microwave in the cafeteria area.
* I think test are mostly multiple choice but they incorporate 10-15 math questions on every test so not sure if those are multiple choice.
* I think you tell them your teacher preference at orientation and they notify you later on who they placed you with.
