St pete college fall 2013

Published

Hello,

I have read previous posts on here over the last few months regarding admission to SPC's AS Nursing program. I applied for the fall 2013 semester. Are there any applicants out there who also applied? I am playing the waiting game. Do any previous applicants know how long it takes to hear if you are accepted or not, once the application window closes? Thank you:)

Thanks, Highwaygirl.

The NANDA is a diagnosis manual. That particular one was not on the book list however, two other diagnosis manuals were "recommended". In just looking at the NANDA vs the other two the NANDA looks more "official" but I am sure they are all based on the same standard ( which I believe is based on/from the NANDA organization) - google- ;)

500 pages! Oh no! I would have to change the black ink 3x to print that. My husband said he would print it out at work for me but honestly I think that he thinks I am exaggerating when I say 500 pages... Lol.

I went to scrubs and stuff on Monday and picked up one of each top. I ordered Cherokee pants and my stethoscope online (cheaper- medisave.com). Shoes are my biggest concern as far as the uniform go. I have been several places and have found shoes that were good but not great. Dansko are too heavy and too expensive. New Balances are a little wide on me ( best so far). Nikes are not comfortable long term. I like the light rubber/foam clogs but they are so squeaky. I have had a pair of nurse mates that I loved in the past but scrubs and stuff only had one style and that was not the same style ( also can not find a store around here that sells the brand per nursemates location finder). There are tons online but I really would like to test them out before purchase. I am open to any recommendations on shoes or places for shoes. I think it will be supper important to find a good shoe for clinicals and future work.

Mhassan, thanks for all of that info. Definitely a good heads up! I had my eye on a Littman stethoscope because i had heard good feedback, but i will look into the Ultrascope.

Regarding shoes, I have heard they have to be white. Is that the case? If so, do any of you guys know how "strict" they are on all white, especially for guys shoes? I have seen some white with a slight black or gray outlines on them. I am waiting for Monday's orientation to find out for sure.

Also, regarding the flu shot requirement, how are you guys approaching that? It doesn't make sense to get a flu shot now. I think i may "decline" it now, because this season's one is not out and then get one once it is released.

Can someone help with my question in my previous post please?

I've called SPC and they've not heard of the mentioned forms/requirements...

I don't think the things you mentioned can be completed right now, nbluextc. I'm sure they'll go over them during orientation.

Flu shot - I don't think you're supposed to get it until after 9/1 when the new shot is distributed. The immunizations requirements probably won't be due until right before clinicals for Nursing I start.

I plan on ordering a Littmann from Medisave too - I'm just still deciding on the color. Kinda like the purple, kinda like the black smoke...

Good to hear that New Balance runs wide, since I have wide feet and they were going to be my first stop tomorrow after BLS class. My friend told me that Skechers outlet stores are having a buy one get one free sale right now so I'm going to check them too. There's a store at Clearwater Mall and one in St. Pete somewhere (I think). My wide feet limit my options for shoes so I'm basically going to get whatever fits well/feels comfortable. Zappos.com always has good prices on shoes and a great return policy so that's another option.

nbluextc,

reinforcing what highwaygirl stated, it sounds as if those items are from documents we are going to be receiving either at orientation or when classes start (i.e. handbook, skills kit). So we will be submitting/uploading those documents at a later date.

Hope this helps.

Nbluext, I agree with the previous posts:

-We should get the handbook and waiver of license guarntee at orientation and then we will upload the agreement form into certified background.

- Once you purchase your skill kit you can upload your receipt.

-We shuould also receive information about when to schedule our ATI-TEAS test at oriention and my guess is once we take the test we will upload a form stating we completed the test and our score.

I picked up my skill kit today and wow! I was not expecting it to be so big; it is a full duffel bag! Also, I found shoes at Peltz. I went with Timberland nursing shoes. They had a big selection.

Highwaygirl, The smoke, purple and copper were my top three (I decided on the copper). I really liked the master classic ninja (all black) but I was not sure if we needed the double sided one or not so I went with Classic SE. Also I heard knowing what pressure to apply to the master series takes some getting use to.

Thankyou for all the responses guys. Completely helpful information!

I would like to share to those who have not gotten their CPR certification to check out Babcock Healthcare Educational Services on 2620 5th Avenue North. Their number is 727-321-8002 and I think they have a class this Saturday.

Class was small and easy to learn, super cool instructor and was out in 2 hours!

Does anyone have any information about the clinical sites (are there ones that are said to be better, or more conducive to learning, ect) ?

I don't know what I thought the skills kit was going to be, but I couldn't believe it when my friend bought it yesterday and showed me - I was in no way expecting a huge duffel bag of stuff. She's in the LPN bridge program and if you thought we had it bad with the price of our books, hers will cost over $1200 if she buys everything required right away.

Peltz is conveniently in the same shopping center as the Skechers Outlet - I'll stop there too.

Is anyone else trying to get nights as opposed to day classes? The idea of getting up at 4 a.m. leaves me wanting, and the night program goes to school in the summer so you end up finishing in 18 months.

Also... To the people who have friends already in:

-Are recorders very helpful?

-How are the care plans and/or any papers/reports we have to do?

-Is there a microwave in the cafeteria area to warm your own lunch? (kinda silly... don't know why it is on my mind)

-Do we have to pay extra to take the ATI?

-Are the tests essay, multiple choice or a mix?

-Do we get to pick our teachers at orientation or are they selected for us?

-How do they determine who gets days/nights (what if they run out of day slots)?

I just have so many questions!!

Is the summer option only if you do the night shift?

Thanks SKFord713!
