It is definitely horrible and one of my worst fears, especially since I moved to the Midwest. Prayers to all of the people in Joplin.

Nurses, first responders and firefighters are en route and recently arrived. Last report is 75% of the town destroyed, 24+ fatalities. Kansas City and surrounding communities are sending equipment and personnel...St. John's Hospital was hit and is without power. All patients sent to Freeman, which is now unable to accept anyone. Lots of walking wounded and will be a long night as search/rescue continue throughout the night in the midst of the dark and lightening.

I live about 45 minutes from Joplin and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it...we have family in town and haven't heard from them yet..it's gonna be a long haul. I heard a third of the southern part of twon is gone, so yeah 75% makes sense..it's just..really hard to fathom. I had my clinicals at St. John's...

I live in Joplin, I feel so helpless, everything is gone. I helped load three bodies in the back of a truck last night. I can't sleep, search and rescue will be going on for days. I can't get a hold of many friends, but luckily my family is okay.
If ANYONE lives in the Joplin, MO region, please help if you can. We are in desperate need of nurses, doctors, ems, supplies, everything. Shelters are overwhellmed, triage centers are being set up and the only other hospital in town will not take patients.
Sorry for going off topic, I just need some place to vent.

I was just so *horrified* when I saw the photos of St. John's! It looked like Oklahoma City after the bombing. I cannot imagine what chaos it was there. We are with you, fellow nurses!
