Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

Hello all,

I am also a Spring 2011 UTMB hopeful. I took the HESI (for another program) and found it extremely easy. I did purchase the study guide from Evolve, but didn't find it super helpful. What I found most helpful was just reviewing all of my physiology & anatomy notes as well as refreshing my mind with fractions (addition, subtractions, multiplication and division) as well as roman numerals.

Are any of you planning to take the TEAS? I am heading down to UTMB on June 28 to take this test & don't really know what to expect. Any ideas?

Also, have ya'll read the previous classes' posts? Last year's Spring 2010 hopefuls didn't find out until right before Thanksgiving that they were accepted. I hope UTMB has better organization this year. I'm not sure I could handle not knowing for so long.

Cheers!

Yeah the application deadline is sooner this year so i'm hopeful. Last semester people knew about a month after the deadline if they had an interview. Also does anyone know if there are any special instructions for the letters of recommendation? Do we just compile them and send them in?

I'm apping as well, went to recent info session and it was packed. Lots of people interested in acclerated studies. Anyone sat the HESI yet? ANy tips? ANyone have this pdf study guide that is out there?

Kitcait08, I'm not sure where you would send the letters of recommendation. When I went to a recent information session, someone had that same question and the lady giving orientation said that letters of recommendation are not required and not really considered in the application process.

Kitcait08, I also went to the information session and the question was brought up about recommendation letters. The admissions counselors basically told the group they did not want them... they are not required therefore they wouldn't look at them...but you may want to ask personally to double check

I was admitted for Spring 2010, and I think I got my interview notice on September 1st or 2nd telling me that I was scheduled for an interview in mid September. (Our application deadline was September 1st last year...not sure when it is this year though). Most everyone knew if they were accepted by November 5th or so. Just giving you all something to work off of :)

the math portion of the hesi is about 8th grade level. on one question, you are asked to add about 10 numbers. they provide you a calculator program. think about this. you're provided a calculator and asked to add 10 numbers? how difficult is that? they ask you to convert simple roman numerals to whole numbers and vice-versa. also conversion from military time to am/pm and vice-versa.

"closing the exam" is an odd quirk to the hesi. until an exam is closed, you can't have your scores sent by elsevier to another school. closing the exam may not occur for days, weeks, or in an extreme case even longer. this is a direct quote from an email from the elsevier help desk:

"to have your exam results sent to another school, please call springer douglas at 1 800.950.2728 x6909."

there is a very annoying aspect to the calculator program provided when you take the hesi. it's not the calculator that comes with windows. it's one elsevier programmed themselves. they didn't do such a great job. if you divide 1000 / 250, it might show 3.999999 instead of 4 as the answer. i recommend taking the hesi at a college or university testing center that provides real, physical calculators. lone star college provides real, physical calculators that give you 4 when you divide 1000 / 250. find out if a physical calculator is provded. it makes the test go more smoothly.

if you want to take the hesi just for practice, you first have to find a school with an application period that is open. you send an email to [email protected] and tell them you are applying to that school. in a few days, they'll send you back a registration code. you can't just sign up for a hesi - it is always tied to a particular school.

Thanks for the info jpchouston. I am scheduled to take my hesi on Wednesday and so ready to get it over with .

Hey, I'm planning on applying for UT Houston Health Science Center as well. By the time I send my application, I will have 44 prerequisite credits. The thing is that I CLEPed and AP tested out of my History 1, English 1, Psychology, and elective classes (Calculus 1 and 2). So this would account for 14 of my prerequisite credits. On my UT transcript, the credits (from AP and CLEP) are granted to me, but it does not show the scores I received for each of them.

Does anyone know if UT will take the examination credits that were granted to me from UH even though the scores aren't listed on my transcript?

I think you should go ahead and apply so that they can begin to evaluate your credits. I went to an information session and students close to 40 hrs but not quite their yet, were encouraged to go ahead and apply, then submit updated transcripts as the summer semesters ended. Good Luck!

o thanks. i actually just submitted my application yesterday! :)

I am freaking out!!!!!! I am also applying from Spring 2011.. I hope I get in. my GPA is really high, I already submitted my application and my transcripts are in. I just have to take HESI exam. any one who took HESI can you tell me how it was? I did bad on TEAS and I heard HESI was suppose to be harder. Also are there alot of analogy for english part?

help please
