Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

Spring 2011 hopeful here too!!! Signed up to take the hesi next month. How long does it take for the results to come in? Does anybody know?

I'm not sure how long it takes...I took mine may 12 and still have not received anything and my utlink has not updated with my score. You can see it at the end of the test, but not sure about the official one.

So it generates your grade at the end of the exam? What a huge relief...i figured i'd loose my nails and hair by the end of this year with all this waiting we have to do...lol...I'm hoping I can squeeze in enough study time in the next couple of weeks.

I did go to the information session & they told me it would take about 3 weeks from the time we applied for them to evaluate our information.

The calculator was available on EVERY page including the reading sections lol. There were several subsections to the critical thinking such as moral issues...etc. I did much better on the moral issues than the triage type questions. That was a little difficult. I scored an 89 overall I haven't been able to find out if this is good or not... Passing is 75 but that doesn't tell me much

Looking at past application periods it seems you have a really good score. :) Good Luck to You!!! DId they give you a score for each section or just an overall?

3 WEEKS? I think I can deal with that I'm sure I'll be crazy busy with nursing school!! lol but the waiting now is what I can't stand. There is a grade at the end of each section that even goes into detail about how you did on each subsection. At the end it gives you a final composite score. Good luck to you on your test!!! :yeah: Also have you sent any transcripts or anything yet?? I just got a transcript eval in I guess I need to call them or something they said I was missing about 3 classes that I had taken and picked my worst grade to count as my elective!! lol i wonder if i should call them tomorrow?

I did send my transcripts in already. I am still taking courses but they told me i could resubmit later ones through the deadline. How long ago did you apply? I am hoping to get my transcript evaluation soon, that way I can see the progress I have. That is odd that they took a low grade for an elective. At the info session the lady told me they would take the highest one so I would call if I were you...

I submitted my app about a month and a half ago. I still have a couple of classes I'll be working on for summer but I would like to get my elective and a couple of the other ones worked out ASAP so I don't have to worry. Thanks for the reply I will prob call monday

Hi everyone I'm also applying for the spring!!I take the HESI tomorrow; hope I do well it was expensive!! I'm taking chem this summer, but other than that i'm done with pre reqs. I plan to start an ADN program for fall... Does anyone know if they would accept transfer nursing courses? I know that TWU and UTMB do... Good luck to all during the stressful waiting

Good luck to everyone applying for spring 2011! I am a second semester nursing student at UTH and was part of the first class admitted to UT in the spring. The program is definitely rigorous, but doable if you are wise with your time. If you have any questions for me, do not hesitate in asking me!

Kitcait, what semester are you applying to again? There were a handful from my class and the class above me who got out of pathophysiology and/or pharmacology since they had already taken them. UT takes these petitions for course credit on a case by case basis. If you feel that your ADN program patho and/or pharm course has adequately prepared you, then I would try to transfer them to UT. I would just take all the courses at UT, but that is just my opinion.

In terms of the HESI: I took the HESI for TWU and I thought it was fairly straight forward. There is a study guide offered through the test producer Evolve-Elsevier, which I thought was fairly helpful. I would supplement this study guide with cliffenotes/sparknotes guides on the different science sections that you feel you need more help on. I'm not very good on standardized tests, but I did very well on this one. Also, do not worry about the critical thinking section. This section isn't graded as percentage correct, so I don't think the admissions board will expect a perfect score since you all have not taken nursing courses or have had any experience with NCLEX style questions.

Thanks a ton!! I'm applying for spring 2011. I will see how it goes but I would prob rather just take the classes again and do well lol as some cushioning for my gpa.

Whew! Just took the HESI a couple of days ago, and boy am I relieved! It was a lot easier than I expected, and I'm just so glad it is over with!

I found out that the scores will not be sent to UT until the administrator "closes the exam" twice a month. And it is a HUGE hassle to find out how to send the scores to other schools online. I found the Elsevier website to be extremely frustrating and hard to navigate. So if any of you want to check/transfer your scores or have any questions, the best bet is to call them personally: 1-800-950-2728 =]

Good luck to those who have yet to take the HESI and everyone else on their applications!

Hi y'all. I am applying for spring '11 and took my HESI on may 30 and scored 94% overall on it. It definitely was not that bad but finding the info to transfer scores was a total pain. I am finishing up a&p 2 and philosophy this summer. I hope my test score is pretty decent because my gpa isn't exactly stellar since I chose to get a degree in a hard subject =\

Would you explain the test?
