Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

Hey, I'm planning on applying for UT Houston Health Science Center as well. By the time I send my application, I will have 44 prerequisite credits. The thing is that I CLEPed and AP tested out of my History 1, English 1, Psychology, and elective classes (Calculus 1 and 2). So this would account for 14 of my prerequisite credits. On my UT transcript, the credits (from AP and CLEP) are granted to me, but it does not show the scores I received for each of them.

Does anyone know if UT will take the examination credits that were granted to me from UH even though the scores aren't listed on my transcript?

You need to think of CLEP and AP credit as transfer credit. How do you get transfer credits? By sending official transcripts to the school you are applying to. In the case of CLEP and AP, you need to pay ETS to send your official score reports to every school you are applying to.

Does anyone have any advice on preparing for the vocabulary section of the HESI? Does anyone know if it's medical terms or general vocab?

Hello,

Which courses are included in the Science GPA? Is it just A&P's, Micro, and Chem?

Thanks

Your A&P I, A&P II, Micro, & Chemistry are calculated into your science GPA.

For those of you who already took the HESI for UT, did you take the Biology and Chemistry sections?? I just came from my test and saw that those sections were up there, but I didn't take them because UT doesn't require them. I took all the other sections though, but I didn't see a submit button (I pushed EXIT instead) and now i"m worried I did something wrong. The lady at the testing center wasn't much help when I asked her about that.

I did take the biology and chem section. Im not sure if it was required or not since i didnt go to a session, i just took it anyways since it was there. where did you hear that it wasnt required?

At the info session, they listed the required sections, and Chem and Bio weren't included. Also, if you visit this link:

http://son.uth.tmc.edu/prospstudent/applresources/documents/hesi_a2_faq.pdf

They list the required sections, not including Chem or Bio.

o, i guess they werent required then... how did that affect your cummulative grade then?

You do not have to take those sections so SerenePeach you should be fine. If you do take those sections the UT admissions should just disregard them, from what i understand they are not looking for a cumulative grade but a grade in each of the sections that are required.

Hmmm... I did not know that there were sections on the test that were not required. I was under the impression that whatever shows up should be completed. I did all the sections, so I don't know if it will count against me.

I know someone who did the same thing and contacted UT...they were told the only grades they would use in calculating applicants would be those required by UT so you should be ok.

2 whole mths before the deadline. :yeah:

Yeah, I contacted UT and they told me the same thing, only the required sections will be calculated into the admission process.
