Spring 2016 El Centro College/ NLC ADN

Published

I know that it's VERY early right now to start gearing up for the Spring 2016 admission but I thought I'd start this post early seeing as I have already started taking my final classes, preparing to take the Hesi A2 test and submitting all my other documents for the program. If all goes well, I will be between 30 and 34 points. How many points do you think you'll be at when it's time to apply for the 2016 spring entry? What's the lowest score that they have accepted for previous entries? Are there any single mothers, such as I, who will be applying for the nursing program? Hope to hear more from others who are getting ready to join. Would love to get lots of feedback!!!!!

Hey all future nurses,

Congrats on all of your acceptances, but I have a quick question since I will most likely (hopefully) be applying for the program for Fall 2016. I am currently taking my first semester of prereqs at El Centro. So far I am taking Composition 1 and General Psychology and will take my Anatomy and Physiology next semester but I wanted some advice at how most of you got 30+ points? What all classes did you take to get points or what did you study for the Hesi A2? I'm really worried I will not get enough points in time to apply and will have to take one more year of additional courses. Please let me know what your degree plan looked like before you applied.

Thanks so much!!!

Most of the points seem to come from high HESI scores (I think the highest was 12 points) and the RN-BSN additional courses (I think you can get 14 from those). Also, if you've taken the HPRS classes that is 5 points right there. People were talking about the points changing recently so you need to look at the packet for Fall 2016 to see because I don't what they've changed since I started last fall.

I believe 28 must be the minimum, but not everyone got in with a 28. It will be important to know what was/ were the tie-breaker(s). In past years it's been cumulative Hesi scores. But, since they changed the scoring without notification, that past use of Hesi may not have been the deciding factor.

Most of us I am assuming completed a majority of the BSN courses in order to gain that many points! Also scoring well on the HESI helps plus taking the HPRS courses to give you additional points. But the main thing is having the extra point classes. I believe 10 of my points were just from those.

Yall have me FREAKING out! I will be turning in my application for acceptance in the fall of 2016. If these changes are significant it will mess me all up! And when do they intend on posting the new criteria online?! We (I) am over here busting my butt to get in next fall and will be crushed if I don't get in due to some out of no where changes! For you all that have meetings with the dean, ect. PLEASE post in regards to these possible changes, it would be greatly appreciated!

ps: I have not taken my HESI yet but have 20pnts without it. From what you all are posting I need to score high enough to earn at least 10 points on my HESI to have a total of 30 to get in. Sounds like many of you got in with 30 points.

Congrats on getting in! I know you're excited!

What was your combined Hesi total?

Sunshine, what was your Hesi total combined?

What exactly were the changes made to the program points? I received my acceptance letter today (So thankful), but I thought I had 27 or 28 points. They calculated 31. Either way I am grateful.. just unsure of the change.

Congrats to everyone and good luck to everyone, those that made it and those that have to wait it out. This was my second time applying. Good luck. FYI... Brookhaven has a great program too, and much less classes to take to gain points!

The changes were to the HESI point system. They lowered and added an extra layer to the point values. I haven't heard of anyone receiving more points, but several being shorted them.

If you scored super high on all of the areas, perhaps you fell in the lucky category. I was shorted 2 points, but have an appointment with the dean next week. I'm certain she will remedy the discrepancy due to the fact that the changes were made without notification, and are contrary to what was published online and in writing for the spring application. I am hopeful the school will be reasonable.

Congratulations on getting in.

What was your total HESI score?

I'm so sorry that happened. I will have to go back and look, but is there a note in the packet that says they can change things without notice. I heard Brookhaven did that last year. I wonder why they do that, especially right before acceptance. It seems as though they should wait and put in writing any changes prior to making them.

My total Hesi points was 7. I should have gotten 8.

There's nothing that states they can or can't do. Typically tho, once it's in writing, it is hard to deviate from it. I'd be interested in your total Hesi score. The total Hesi is usually the tie breaker as to whether you get in or not if multiple applicants had the same admission scores.

How many of the bridge program classes have you done? I had 8 total.

My total Hesi was 450 and I received 11 points for the extra courses. Did you have the meeting with Dean Becker?
