Spring 2017 Chat

Published

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

My last official class was today! Yay! I didn't do all that well on my Micro practical - 81, but I'd have to get a 55 on the final to drop my grade to a B, so I'm not worried about it.

I have an "information session" tomorrow about the EMT program. It says there will be one on one advising, which I assume is an interview. What should I wear?!?

Congratulations!!

As for what to wear - business casual! Some folk think that scrubs are cool to interview in if you're going for a healthcare job, but honestly I don't think it's appropriate.

That's fantastic! Great job!

My last Micro practical is today and I had a really hard time studying last night. Most of the test is over biochemical testing and I just feel like brain is mush. So I'm right there with ya!

Thanks! :)

Ah man I feel you on that. Our second lab practical was over biochemical testing and I was just about brain dead after studying for that one. lol Since we had 3, ours today was over fungi/protozoa/viruses so it wasn't all that difficult, thankfully. But at least Micro practicals are now done and over with for us both now!

I also had my last classes today! But I don't really feel a sense of relief yet since I still have finals next week. Plus, my micro professor was out sick for 2 weeks this semester so we got behind in lecture and now we're responsible for teaching ourselves the last 2 chapters we were supposed to cover since we ran out of time. Not exactly happy about that, especially since those chapters are over Immunology.

My semester is over!! I'm so relieved and ready for this break. I got an A in A&P 2, with a 99 on the final and a 98 on the lab practical!! An A in lifespan development, with a 96 on the final. & im still waiting for my final grade in Spanish, which is stressing me out! Spanish is the only class I was worried about, but let's hope I got an A in it! I have 3 weeks until the summer semester begins and I will be spending this time studying for the TEAS test. I will also be applying to the nursing program as soon as I'm able to get my final transcripts so that's exciting! Good luck to those of you that still have finals or are waiting on your grades!!

Congratulations!!

Some people totally showed up in scrubs. One dude was rocking sweat pants.

Anyway, I got accepted! Conditionally, because I haven't finished my med term class, and I had to get special approval for that and but accepted me because I have a rockin' GPA. I have a bunch of stuff to turn in before May 24th to hold my spot, but I'm so excited! They require 90 clinical hours, so it'll be an interesting fall semester for sure. Some of the clinicals are in the ER and some are at the fire station.

Just got finished with the final exam review for A&P II. Almost done!

Yessssss Jen! That's amazing! Our med term is gonna FLY by! I'm so excited for you! When does the emt class start?

I got an email asking for a virtual interview so I'm trying to process that and prepare to do it this afternoon. The world is sure changing haha! I didn't even know such a thing was possible.

How much did the med term class cost? My bill says $1050, which I can't even fathom is accurate. It's a 3 credit class for goodness sakes. I'm hoping it's a mistake.

What is your virtual interview for? Good luck!

EMT classes start in August.

It is sadly correct, I didn't realize that either and when I asked they said it's $525 like the other classes but that there is an extra fee because it's an "upper division nursing class". Extra fee equivalent to the tuition is bull in my opinion but okay. And it's one they don't accept in transfer from anywhere? They have to make money somewhere I guess.

It's for a PCT position but the listing was very vague so I don't know if the PCTs float or they aren't sure what unit yet or what. It's all so different.

That's ridiculous. This set up is starting to feel a little shady.

Yeah, I'm not sure why if we have to take it as a pre-req, it's a nursing class? The program itself I think is solid, they said it's the same charge per hour for the on campus BSN classes. I'm gonna look and see if any of the other branches have this same tuition differential.

Unfortunately if I want to do the EMS program, I HAVE to have med-term and this is my only option at this point. Guess I won't be getting Starbucks for a while.

Are we in the same class?

I'm section 500, are you?

@mindofmidwifery do you have any interview tips for PCT? It's not a usual interview, I record my answers and they review them later but it's going to be the standard questions. I'm too nervous, I have to shake that!
