Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?
I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.
My schedule is:
A&P II
Microbio
Federal Government
World Religions
The last two are online.
Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.
I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!
This spring I am taking microbiology which I am doing very well in. There are 995 points in the class to get an A we need 895 points. I really enjoy micro it is different. It is also challenging but it is fun. In the summer I will take my last pre req/gen ed for the ASN. I am taking either Chemistry or Advanced Human Physiology. These are electives for our ASN program for our science courses. I am taking the TEAS 6 for the first time next month. I have taken both practice tests . I got a 79% on practice A. Have not taken B yet. I'm hoping I score in the advance or exemplorary category. Should I not get selected my advisor said I would retake A&P 1 for a better grade as I know a C is not competitive .
Took my first Micro exam last week and got an A. Next week I have Ap2 lecture and lab exams.I'm also happy to report that I passed the Kaplan exam this morning with flying colors and that I submitted my application to the school of nursing. I should be hearing something back in April. Talk about torture!
So exciting!! Keep us posted!
I have a quiz in micro every week it makes learning the material easier IMO. We have exams every 2 weeks and labs on top of that. This class is intense but a great learning experience. We are now discussing Prokaryotic cells and chemistry. Yes quite interesting, it seems as if this class has A&P, Chemistry, Nutrition, and Microbiology all in one. Its fun to learn about the chemistry how protons, neutrons and electrons relate to organisms. We have lab tomorrow and we are working with E coli and agar. The lab looks intense but the instructor told us it is actually easier than it looks.

We have lecture and lab quizzes every week, too. I *love* Micro, so interesting!
I got a 94 on my Micro test, yay me!

Great job! I sure hope to pull that kind of score off this coming exam. I have exam 2 next Monday and we are on our 4th quiz. We have 5 exams, 4 are 100 points and the final is 150 points. The quizzes in lab are each 15 points, we have 10 of those, but she is only grading 9 if we choose to do all 10 the 10th quiz will be extra credit.
I am also excited as we are approaching our Unknown lab. This will be fun. We do the lab then over the next several weeks we are to type a report on our Unknown.
At the end of the semester our lab unknown report is due and we have a lab exam worth 50 points. Its funny, I am doing better in Micro then A&P, though I did very well in A&P, I am finding Micro to be somewhat more interesting, however I loved the fetal pig dissection in A&P 2.

Ohh, we started our Unknowns last week! We did the streak plating and I get to see tomorrow how that turned out.
We don't get to do a fetal pig dissection, unfortunately - we're doing rats at the end of the semester. I do, however, get to go to the cadaver lab and play with body bits, which I'm looking forward to.
I like Micro more than A&P, as well. I like hands on stuff though, so I think that's why.
Good luck on your test!

Thanks for the encouragement, I sure need it now. I am also studying up for my TEAS next month, so I am sort of busy, could be worse lol. I study a few hours everyday between the TEAS and Micro so hopefully I will get a high score on my first time. I am doing well on the practice tests, especially Science and Reading I am scoring around mid/high 80's on these sections. I just scored like an 81% on my Math and for some reason I keep scoring in the mid/high 70's on English. I use the study ATI TEAS 6 study manual, TEAS flash cards and I also have the TEAS prep app on my phone so I do a lot of those tests. I plan to keep studying up until a few days before the actual test. I give myself time to relax in between studying to prevent overloading my mind with all the information in a short time. Thank you again for your encouragement and good luck to you as well!
