So I am going to apply to SPC's RN program for the Jan 2010 semester. I have everything but my Micro/Lab finished. I know they look at your GPA from certain classes and I have all B's in those classes. If I get an A in my micro classes, do you think they will even consider me for enterance into the program? I know how picky they are! has anyone gotten into the program with a 3.1 GPA or anything? I am kind of putting all my eggs in this one basket! Thanks in advance!!!
remember they will ask you the usual interview questions. i applied to the lpn program, but i'm sure they will ask you guys the same questions. these of course are not in any order, but i prepped myself ahead of time for all of these, so there would be no "ummmmmmm, hmmmmmm ... i'm not sure? can you repeat the question again please?" kind of stupid things said lol
1. where do you see yourself in 5 years?
2. what is your understanding of what the role of the rn is?
3. how would you handle a difficult patient that refused to take their meds? (now this falls back on what an lpn can do and cannot do. i'd make sure you know 100% what the role of the rn is so you know how to handle it. for me, it would be to notify the rn or supervisor. see where i am going here? had i not known the role of an lpn, i'd not know that we need to report everything to the charge nurse/supervisor)
4. what was the most stressful situation you've ever encountered and how did you handle it?
5. what do you do if there is a fellow co-worker that you simply do not get along with? how do you handle them?
6. what would you do if you were failing one of your courses or even just one test? what steps would you take and how would you try to remedy that failure?
7. what do you think are your strengths?
8. what are your weaknesses? (ok, here is a tricky one - you want to play up a strength, by making it a weakness.)
that's all i can think of right now .... i'll post more if they come back to me .... also, google "interview questions/answers" for more tips .... always go to the interview prepared ..... smile, make eye contact, and sell yourself to the interviewer. i'm sure you will all have debbie covert as the interviewer. she made my interview comfortable, however, i left there not really sure how i did .....remember to answer honestly, but don't say too much either .... short, sweet and to the point usually works best. when you start rambling, you may say something you did not intend to say .... think carefully before choosing your words ..... take a deep breath and relax ...... and if all else fails "picture them in their underwear!" (something i remember from old brady bunch show ...... but it works, really .... it will make you smile anyway and smiling helps calm you down)
good luck to all of you. hope to pass you all in the halls of baycare soon :heartbeat
FYI...THEPOPES,
Got your e-mail, but I haven't posted enough to send a direct e-mail response...something about the policy for the site. NE-way...I can't even remember my alt# sorry , I think it was around 21, and I missed it by 6 seats when I was being considered for the 30% pool. I have, however, been accepted to start in January...I'd say, with a number 4 seat will probably get you in, you just won't get too much choice in what schedule you get...alternates take what's left over. See in you orientation : )
Just got home from my EAYL RN interview.....TOTALLY NOT what I was expecting. I got there like 35 min early and was one of the first interviews called....answered like 8 questions and the total interview time was like 10-15 min tops! The lady was really nice, but left me kind of unsure of how I did. I trid my best and they said they will do call backs for the second interview sometime in October. Atleast the first part is done..anyone else want to share their experience???? :)
Yes, totally different from what you would expect. It's hard to get a sense of what they think when they are trying to write in those tiny boxes. I had the younger girl (started with a J..gosh I wish I could remember it) and she was so nice and made you totally at ease. I wonder if each interviewer selects a couple of their favorites to come back? We'll see how it goes...
did they tell you guys how many students baycare was selecting?
any idea how soon they will be contacting you for your 2nd interview? and i know how you are all feeling, because it went thru it myself .... as tom petty would say, "the waiting is the hardest part." good luck to all of you.

I have typed up some of those difficult/hard to answer questions that I know they will probably ask and figure out my answers now... like the dreaded " what is your greatest weakness?"...So I am not sitting there going... "Ummmm....Uhhhh???" But not being too reheorificed about it ya know? I have a great letter of recommendation from my current boss...I am a veterinary technician so hopefully the fact that he is a animal doctor will kind of count...lol...I didn't have anything to wear and I am broke so I borrowed a really nice suit from my sister that she actually wore to her med school interview...I have a black jacket to wear that I will bring with me and put it on if I think it is appropriate :)
